College Hoops Parlay Of The Day 1-26-22

The college basketball world has been thrown on its head in the last couple of weeks as conference play is taking its toll on some of the top teams in the nation. Just about every good team in the country has suffered through at least one loss in the last couple of weeks, with the exception of Gonzaga and Auburn, who are starting to really pull away from the rest of the pack at the top of the national rankings.

Today, we have a full slate of league games on tap with headlining games between Marquette and Seton Hall, Oklahoma and West Virginia, and Providence at Xavier taking center stage. Sweating out the major programs is always fun, but here at TheSportsGeek we cover all of the action and today, we have some lower profile but equally exciting games in store for you, like the matchups between San Diego State and Utah State, UCF and Wichita State, and Wofford and Chattanooga. Without further delay, we will jump right into it, delivering max value, with everyone’s favorite way to play, the parlay! Let’s get started!

Money Line Magic Parlay

Our money line magic parlay is a parlay that is made up of exclusively money line bets. Unlike point spread plays where a team has to win by a certain amount of points to win your bet, on a money line play, all your team has to do is win the game to get you paid. To make up for the fact that some teams are favorites and others are underdogs, you are going to either lay odds when betting on favorites or be paid out at odds for your bet if you take the underdog.

Creighton Blue Jays (-150) at Butler Bulldogs

For our first play of the day, we head to the Big East for the game between Crieghton and Butler. Normally this would be a solid mid-level matchup in the Big East, but this year, the Bulldogs are way down, making this game one that the Blue Jays must win on the road. Winning on the road in league play is never easy and winning at Hinkle Fieldhouse has always been one of the biggest challenges in the country, but in this game, the Blue Jays are favored, and rightfully so, as they are a much more talented team.

Crieghton is 12-5 overall, including a winning record in league play at 4-2, and they have signature wins over teams like BYU, Villanova, and Marquette. The vast majority of the Blue Jays games have come at home this season, but they did manage to pick up true road wins at Nebraska and Marquette, and both of those teams rank out as better than this Bulldogs team does right now.

For Butler, it has been a disappointing season, and after struggling last season, it looks like they may be bottoming out this year. The Bulldogs haven’t even been competitive in most of their Big East games, as they have gotten blown out with regularity. Against the national top-100, Butler is a dismal 1-10, with their lone win coming in a neutral floor game against Oklahoma early in the season, where Butler won in overtime.

Sadly, if Butler just remains competitive, that is going to be somewhat of a moral victory for them, as wins just haven’t been a major part of the equation this year for the Bulldogs. Expect Butler to put up a fight early, but fade late, as Crieghton pulls away for the outright road victory. Give me the Blue Jays as small road favorites.

Wofford Terriers at Chattanooga Mocs (-220)

Many of you out there have probably never seen the Mocs of Chattanooga play a single game, but let me tell you, this team is the real deal. The Mocs are currently sitting in first place in the SOCON, and they are going to be one of those teams nobody sees coming in March when they are a tough out in the NCAA tournament. Well, nobody except for my readers here at TheSportsGeek, that is! I have been high on Chattanooga all season long, and they are not disappointing, as they continue to dominate in league play with a 6-1 record.

Teams playing in the SOCON don’t get to play a high enough caliber of opponent to rack up a bunch of top-100 wins, but there is something to be said for a team that wins with regularity like the Mocs have done this year with a 16-4 record. Chattanooga went into Wofford earlier this month and beat the Terriers on their own floor, and now that the season series has shifted back to Tennessee, I see the Mocs winning this game without too much of a sweat.

No disrespect to Wofford, they are a great small conference program, but this year the Terriers are down, and they just haven’t played consistently enough to ever want to back them in a tough spot like this one. Wofford has true road losses at Clemson, South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, and UNC Greensboro, and they are coming off of one of their worst performances of the year, where they got embarrassed at home by Furman, losing by 25 points to the Paladins. I want this game to be tightly contested and exciting, but I just don’t think it will be, as the Mocs are just the better team in this game by a fairly wide margin. I will lay a little wood and back the home team.

Vanderbilt Commodores at South Carolina Gamecocks (-120)

The SEC is either the best conference in the country or close to it, as this league is loaded with talented teams, and league wins are always going to be hard to come by. Even the lower-level teams from the SEC are good, and in this matchup, we feature a couple of the cellar-dwelling squads from the SEC, in this game between South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

You know your league is good when the worst teams are still threatening to break into the top-100, and despite both of these teams being long shots to be playing meaningful games in March, they both have shown that if they play their best basketball, they can beat really good teams. That makes this matchup a fun one to watch, as both of these teams are capable of playing really quality basketball despite their bad records.

South Carolina has wins over UAB, Florida State, and Vanderbilt this year, and when you look at their losses, it is hard to be too tough on Frank Martin’s team, as they have losses to Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas. Vanderbilt has a similar resume, as they have signature wins over BYU and Arkansas, and many of their losses have come to ranked opponents.

These teams played at Vandy 3 weeks ago, and the Gamecocks came away with a thrilling victory, and I expect more of the same now that they are playing this game at Colonial Life Arena on the USC campus. Expect another all-out war, but the outcome should be the same as before, with South Carolina gutting out a hard-fought victory. I wouldn’t want to lay any points in this game, as it is sure to be tightly contested, so instead, I will make my play on the Cocks on the money line as small favorites.

Game Total Parlay

Game total plays are commonly referred to as over/under bets because you are betting over or under the posted point total for a game. The game total is calculated by adding up the final scores of both teams. If that total score adds up to more than the total, the over bets win. If the total score adds up to under that total, bets on the under win. If the total score lands exactly on the posted total, all bets push.

UNC Greensboro Spartans at East Tennessee State Buccaneers under 128.5

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers host the UNC Greensboro Spartans today in a SOCON league game. This line opened up at 126.5 points, which felt a bit high, as Kenpom has the game finishing at 124 points. But the public hasn’t seen it that way, as they have been hammering on the over, driving the line to where it stands now at 128.5 points, which opens up a lot of value on the under on what is now a very inflated line.

I am not sure what the public sees in the over here, as Greensboro is laughable bad on offense, and they play one of the slowest tempos in the country. Neither of these teams are great on defense, but with weak offensive attacks and a slow pace of play, this is one of those first team to score 60 points wins kind of games. I love to fade the public, and that is just what I will do in his one as I will jump on the under and high five the public for giving me such a high-value line.

Boston College Eagles at North Carolina Tar Heels Over 145.5

The North Carolina Tar Heels are looking for the season sweep over Boston College today, and after watching them drop 91 points on the Eagles on their own floor in their first meeting, I am shocked to see such a low number in the rematch. The Heels play fast, and they score the ball efficiently, and that has led to a lot of high scoring games this season for North Carolina.

In that first game, the Eagles basically no-showed at home, and the game still finished at 156 points, so even if the Tar Heels blow this one out again, which is fairly likely, the over is still the play, as they are going to threaten to hit the century mark tonight in Chapel Hill. BC will do their best to slow this game down to try and hang with the much more talented Tar Heels, but in the end, it is going to be a futile effort as Carolina is going to run this score up and push the total to the over.

Texas A&M Aggies at LSU Tigers Under 131

The LSU Tigers are trying to snap a 3-game losing streak tonight as they welcome the upstart Aggies of Texas A&M to town for an SEC game. A couple of weeks ago, the Tigers looked like a legit national title threat, but after dropping games to Arkansas, Alabama, and Tennessee, they are now just looking to get this once-promising season back on track.

The Tigers have the number 1 defense in the nation in terms of efficiency, and it hasn’t been the D that has led to these losses, as their offense has been all over the place, and they have suffered through several long scoring droughts, which has really hurt the team. The Tigers have failed to hit the 60-point mark in 2 of their last 3 games, and I see them having another poor shooting night tonight against a much better than people seem to think Texas A&M team that is 32nd in the nation on defense. This is going to be a hardnosed and physical game that I see as very low scoring. I am taking the under.

The Daily Dog

The daily dog parlay is a play where all we take are money line underdogs. Parlaying underdogs is the best way to rack up jumbo payouts on small upfront investments. Want to win a jackpot payout? Then parlaying underdogs is for you!

Saint Bonaventure Bonnies at George Mason Patriots (+145)

If you are looking for a high-level theme on where to look for upsets, home underdogs in league play is where you should start your search. Home dogs are always going to play tougher than expected, and in league play, with the teams being so familiar with each other, we see a lot of upsets. I will take a home dog in conference play today, as I will back George Mason against Saint Bonaventure.

George Mason hasn’t gotten to play a lot recently, as they had multiple COVID-19 related interruptions to their season, but they are back on the floor now, and they are playing well. The Patriots have won back-to-back games in the A-10 with home wins over Dayton and Saint Joeseph’s.

They haven’t been very good on the road, but at home, George Mason is more than respectable with a 7-1 home court record. I smell upset tonight, as the Bonnies as just 3-3 in their last 6 games after a hot start to the season, and with the Patriots having well-rested legs, I think they are primed to pull off a stunner.

Miami Hurricanes (+190) at Virginia Tech Hokies

Are the Miami Hurricanes a good team? Are they a great team? Are they a bubble team? Do they even make the NCAA tournament? The Hurricanes have been a hard team to nail down this season, as at times they look like a sleeper Sweet 16 team, like when they beat Duke, North Carolina, and Wake Forrest. But then, at other times, they look like garbage, like in their last game when they got down huge at home against Florida State before coming up just short with a furious 2nd half rally.

What I do know about Miami, is that they can play with the best the ACC has to offer, and they shouldn’t ever be this big of underdogs in a league game after showing what they are capable of in conference play. That is especially true against Virginia Tech, as the Hokies just aren’t a very good basketball team right now.

V-Tech has played a brutal schedule, which explains their mediocre record, but they are just 2-6 in the ACC, including bad losses to Boston College, Virginia, and NC State. This one is high variance, but the ample juice more than makes up for it. Give me the Hurricanes, and let’s hope that they ride that 2nd half momentum from their last game into play tonight with a hot start and a huge road win.

Point Spread Plays

In this final section, we are making plays on the point spread. A point spread bet is the most basic of all college hoops bets. In order to cash a bet on the point spread, your team must cover the number. Like a team as a big favorite? You might have to lay a bunch of points in order to win your bet. Think the underdog will lose, but keep the game close? Then snatching up the points is the side you’ll want to be on.

Providence Friars (+8.5) at Xavier Musketeers

I have gone on record as saying that I think the Providence Friars are the most underrated team in the nation this year, and I stand by that, as this team is very good, and they are being all but ignored by the mainstream media. Ed Cooley has always had workman-like teams in his time at Providence, and this year is no different, as this team isn’t flashy, and they aren’t going to get a lot of national attention, but man, can they play quality basketball.

The Friars are 16-2 on the season, with quality wins over Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Vermont, UCONN, Seton Hall, St. John’s, and Rhode Island. Their only losses both were fluky, as they lost to Virginia and Marquette on days that, for whatever reason, they just couldn’t hit makable shots. Every team is going to have off nights shooting the rock, and I won’t let those distract me from the fact that this team can compete with, and beat, the top teams in the nation.

I actually really like Xavier, too, as the Musketeers join the rest of the Big East as criminally underrated. X doesn’t have the stacked resume that PC has, but they have wins over Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Creighton, and Virginia Tech, so they too can beat good teams.

To me, this just comes down to taking advantage of a bad line. I am not sure there is a team in the nation that I wouldn’t want to back Providence against if you are giving me this many points. I will stop just short of calling the outright road upset, but I will snatch up all of those points in what is sure to be a game that comes down to the final few possessions to be decided. I am on PC with the points, as X is going to be on upset alert tonight at home.

Arkansas Razorbacks (-3.5) at Ole Miss Rebels

Coming into this season, I was a huge fan of Arkansas and expected them to compete at the top of the SEC. The Razorbacks looked the part of a contender early in the year when they started the season by winning each of their first 9 games, but then they hit a rough patch where they lost 5 out of 6 games, derailing the hype train in Fayetteville.

But head coach Eric Musselman has things headed in the right direction again now, as the Razorbacks are riding a 4-game winning streak into play tonight. All of those wins came in league play, and the Razorbacks have shot up the standings in the SEC, and a win over Ole Miss would go a long way into seeing Arkansas live up to their preseason hype.

The Rebels of Ole Miss didn’t have that same level of expectations coming into the season, as they were expected to finish near the bottom of the SEC, and that is right where they are, halfway through league play. Even on their home floor, the Rebels struggle to stay consistent as they have home losses to Auburn, Missouri, and an absolutely unforgivably bad loss to Samford. I know I just told you that home dogs are my favorite plays, but I guess I will break my own rule in this one, as I think the Hogs are going to go into Oxford and leave with the win and cover.

Oklahoma Sooners at West Virginia Mountaineers (-2)

For our final play of the day, we will head to the Big 12 for a showdown between West Virginia and Oklahoma. Winning in Morgantown is one of the most consistently hard things to do in college basketball as head coach Bob Huggins protects his floor year in and year out. This year, the Mountaineers are 10-1 at home, with their only loss coming to the defending national champion Baylor Bears. This is a huge game for Huggy Bear as West Virginia has lost 3 straight games and they need a win.

It is hard to knock the Mountaineers too much for this losing streak as they lost to Kansas and Texas Tech on the road and Baylor at home, and all of those teams are Final Four caliber squads. Life in the Big 12 is always tough, and that continues today, as West Virginia will play a talented Oklahoma. The Sooners are feeling the sting of conference play in the Big 12, as they are undeniably a talented team but have lost 5 of their last 6 games.

Nobody is ever going to fault the Sooners for losing to Baylor (twice), Kansas, and Texas, but if you are going to survive in the Big 12, those are the types of teams that you have to beat. OU is 0-3 in Big 12 play on the road, and while I think this team is very good, this is another game that is going to be too much for them, as I see them losing in hostile territory. When your league is as loaded as the Big 12 is, teams that are very good aren’t going to be good enough to hang around, and right now, the Sooners look like that team in the Big 12.
