College Hoops Parlay Of The Day 1-27-22

Boom goes the dynamite! We killed the game again yesterday when we connected on an extra juicy all underdog money line parlay, that paid out $711 bucks! That play came in when we found winners on both George Mason (+145) and Miami (+190), and we got to see the power of parlaying dogs, as we got a hefty return on our investment.

While it was a very good day betting on college hoops, it was nearly a great day, as we just missed out on 2 other parlay hits, dropping just one game on each ticket. We did, however, find straight bet winners on Providence (+8.5) and Arkansas (-3.5), as well as money line winners on Chattanooga (-220) and South Carolina (-120). Any day that ends with more money in my pocket than I started with is a good day, and today we will get right back to the grind, delivering max value, with everyone’s favorite way to play, the parlay! Let’s get started!

Money Line Magic Parlay

Our money line magic parlay is a parlay that is made up of exclusively money line bets. Unlike point spread plays where a team has to win by a certain amount of points to win your bet, on a money line play, all your team has to do is win the game to get you paid. To make up for the fact that some teams are favorites and others are underdogs, you are going to either lay odds when betting on favorites or be paid out at odds for your bet if you take the underdog.

BYU Cougars (-150) at Santa Clara Broncos

The West Coast Conference is the best it has ever been this year, with 5 teams ranked in the top-100 on Kenpom and 4 teams looking like legit NCAA tournament teams. We all know about how great Gonzaga is this year, but they aren’t the only team in the WCC that has their eyes set on a deep run in March, as the Cougars of BYU are a very good team.

BYU spent some time in the top-25 of the AP Poll earlier this season, and the Cougars only dropped from the rankings after getting blown out by Gonzaga, but I won’t fault them too much for that putrid performance as the Bulldogs are blowing out everybody this year. That loss to the Zags is the only loss in over a month for BYU, and the Cougars wins over Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Utah State, Missouri State, Oregon, and San Diego State has BYU looking like a potential Sweet 16 level squad.

All of that being said, the Cougars are going to have their hands full tonight on the road at Santa Clara. The Broncos are looking like the odd man out in the WCC, as they are ranked in the top-100 for the first time in forever, but they just haven’t been able to hang with the best teams the WCC has to offer. The Broncos have already lost to both Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga, and they haven’t beaten a decent team since November when they knocked off TCU.

I try to never fall too in love with a road favorite in league play, but I just don’t think Santa Clara is going to be able to compete with BYU right now. Herb Sendek deserves a lot of credit for building this program up, as he has finished the season ranked higher on Kenpom in each of his last 4 years at the helm of the Broncos, but they just aren’t quite there yet in terms of competing for the conference title. I will back BYU as they should be able to leave the Leavey Center tonight with the outright victory.

Loyola Chicago Ramblers (-210) at Southern Illinois Salukis

Let’s ramble, Ramblers! New head coach Drew Valentine has done a great job of keeping the Ramblers of Loyola Chicago playing at a high level in his first year running the mid-major program, as Loyola is 15-3 on the year. In almost any other year, a team as good as the Ramblers are this year would run away with the Missouri Valley regular season title, but that just isn’t the case this year, as Missouri State is hot on their heels for first place.

Loyola Chicago lost to Missouri State at home last week, and they have a road trip to play the Bears next month, making this game a big one for the Ramblers as they have little margin for error right now. Loyola will head to Southern Illinois today to play the Salukis, in a rematch of the game we saw just 2 days ago, where Loyola coasted to a 12-point victory over SIU.

But that game was in Chicago, and this game is in Carbondale, which means we are going to see a more tightly contested game tonight. The question is, is that change of venue going to be enough to change the outcome of this game? Honestly, I just don’t think so.

The Salukis have lost 5 of their last 6 games, and while none of those losses are bad ones, we just haven’t seen this team find a way to beat a quality team, let alone a very good team like the Ramblers. I wouldn’t want to lay a bunch of points in this one, but I see the Ramblers rambling to yet another victory tonight at the Banterra Center.

UAB Blazers (-150) at Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

My regular readers out there know that I am a big fan of this UAB Blazers team. You aren’t hearing a lot about the Blazers from the mainstream media, but this team can flat out play ball. The Blazers are a well-balanced team ranked in the top-60 on both offense and defense, and I see them as a team that would be well deserving of an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament if the season were to end today.

UAB has won 7 of their last 8, with a 6-1 record in league play, but that is only good enough for a 3-way tie for first place in the Conference USA standings. The Blazers play at Western Kentucky tonight, trying to hang onto that share of first place, with the Hilltoppers looking for their first top-100 win of the year.

I am not going to say that Western Kentucky is a bad team, but they certainly aren’t a good team. And while their 10-9 record isn’t awful on the surface, a closer look shows me that they are 0-7 against teams ranked in the top-110. That does not bode well for them tonight, as UAB is one of the best teams that they have played all year. I expect the Hilltoppers to give it their all and keep the game competitive, but even on their own floor, they just aren’t going to have enough to win this game.

Game Total Parlay

Game total plays are commonly referred to as over/under bets because you are betting over or under the posted point total for a game. The game total is calculated by adding up the final scores of both teams. If that total score adds up to more than the total, the over bets win. If the total score adds up to under that total, bets on the under win. If the total score lands exactly on the posted total, all bets push.

Delaware Blue Hens at Towson Tigers Over 139.5

For our next play, we will check in on the Colonial Athletic Association for a game between Delaware and Towson. Towson is the most talented team in the CAA right now, but they had a couple of early losses in conference play, and they are going to have to play from behind to catch UNC Wilmington for the regular season title.

The Tigers have won 9 of their last 11 games, and they are getting the job done by playing very efficient offense. Towson plays a slow pace, which sometimes masks just how good they are at scoring the rock, but have no doubts, this is one of the better scoring teams in the nation. These teams just played a couple of days ago, and the game stayed lower scoring, but now that the Tigers get this game at home, I expect them to play better and push this total to the over on their own floor.

Purdue Boilermakers at Iowa Hawkeyes Over 153

The game of the days comes to us From Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where the Iowa Hawkeyes play the Purdue Boilermakers. While this game is sure to be a thriller, my play is based exclusively on what I see as a bad line move. This number opened up at 158 points, which already felt a bit low as Kenpom has this game being played out in the ’80s, with a projected final score of 161 points.

But the public has disagreed with the analytics, as they have been hammering the under since this line was posted, driving it down a full 5 points! I sweat these totals each and every day, and it is exceedingly rare that you are going to find an 8-point gap on a total between the Kenpom line and the betting line. 153 is a lot of points, but this game features 2 of the top-7 teams in the nation in terms of offensive efficiency, and both of these teams can get hot and run the score up.

Iowa has scored at least 80 points in 13 of their 19 games, and Purdue has been nearly as good, eclipsing the 80-point mark in 12 of their 19 games. Don’t be shocked if one or possibly both of these teams threaten the century mark in a game that could end up going way over once all is said and done tonight in Iowa City.

East Carolina Pirates at Memphis Tigers Over 146

The Memphis Tigers snapped a 3-game losing streak in their last game with a much-needed win over Tulsa and will look to ride that momentum tonight and make it back-to-back wins as they welcome East Carolina to town. It is easy to dump on the Tigers as they have not lived up to their preseason expectations that had them as a Final Four level team, but they have played a brutal schedule, and something tells me that if this team can get healthy, that they are still going to be a team that nobody wants to see in their bracket in March.

The Tiger’s results have been inconsistent, but they always play at a fast pace and are looking for quick points in transition any chance that they can get them. I guess that inconsistency has spooked the public, as they have been on the under in this one, moving the line down 3-points since it opened. A lot of controversy was made when Penny Hardaway blew up at the media last week after his team lost 3 straight games, but that tirade seemed to have lit a fire under the Tigers, as they exploded for 83 points in their next game, a win against Tulsa.

When the Tigers get hot down the stretch and win a bunch of games, just remember you heard it here first. Memphis has way too much talent to struggle for too much longer, and I see them lighting up the scoreboard tonight and pushing this game over the total.

The Daily Dog

The daily dog parlay is a play where all we take are money line underdogs. Parlaying underdogs is the best way to rack up jumbo payouts on small upfront investments. Want to win a jackpot payout? Then parlaying underdogs is for you!

Milwaukee Panthers at Robert Morris Colonials (+100)

Home dogs in league play are my jam, and that is where I will take my stand tonight in this game between Robert Morris and Milwaukee. The Colonials are not a very good basketball team. In fact, you could argue that Robert Morris is one of the worst teams in the country, as they are currently ranked 316th nationally. But they have played a lot of true road games, making their record look worse than it actually is. The Colonials are 1-10 in true road games, and it is hard to fault them too much for true road losses against teams like UCF, Oakland, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Milwaukee isn’t much better, as the Panthers are ranked 280th on Kenpom. These teams played earlier this season at Milwaukee, and the game was tightly contested throughout, with the Panthers pulling away late for the outright victory. But in small conference basketball, it is all about the home teams, and I see the Colonials getting their revenge tonight in their own building.

Weber State Wildcats at Northern Colorado Bears (+100)

Did somebody say home underdogs in conference play? Yesterday we went 2-0 on underdog plays, including taking George Mason as home dogs, and we will follow that recipe for success again today, as we back the Northern Colorado Bears at home against the visiting Wildcats of Weber State in Big Sky play.

This game might not be one that is on your radar, but these teams are tied in the loss column for first place in the Big Sky, and the winner of this game is going to have the inside track on winning the league and punching their dance card for the Big Dance.

Northern Colorado’s record looks bad, but it is very deceiving, as the Bears have been great in conference play at 5-1, and of their 8 losses, 4 of them came to top-50 teams in true road games. You have to respect when a small conference team goes and plays against the big boys and losing to elite schools in the non-conference means absolutely nothing once these teams hit league play.

A quick glance at Weber State’s record might lead you to believe that the Wildcats are the superior team in this matchup, but their record is inflated with a lot of wins over bad teams. Only 3 of the Wildcats 14 wins have come over teams ranked inside the top-200, and with Northern Colorado coming in at 187th, that tells me that the Wildcats are going to have a long night tonight in Greely. In what is sure to be an all-out war tonight, I will make my play on the home team.

Point Spread Plays

In this final section, we are making plays on the point spread. A point spread bet is the most basic of all college hoops bets. In order to cash a bet on the point spread, your team must cover the number. Like a team as a big favorite? You might have to lay a bunch of points in order to win your bet. Think the underdog will lose, but keep the game close? Then snatching up the points is the side you’ll want to be on.

Wisconsin Badgers at Nebraska Cornhuskers (+7.5)

The majority of our action today has focused on smaller conference games, but we will switch gears now as we head to the Big 10 for a game between Wisconsin and Nebraska. Every day I come here and write about taking home underdogs and make a bunch of money when they win, yet every day, the books continue to allow me to take home teams and get more points than I deserve. More than any other conference, the Big 10 is always home team dominated. Just in the last week, we see home dog outright winners in the Big 10 from Illinois, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, and Rutgers.

I smell more upsets tonight, as Nebraska doesn’t win all that often, but they are nearly always competitive in Lincoln. The Huskers aren’t a team that is going to be playing meaningful games in March, but at home, they are respectable. The Cornhuskers are 6-7 at home this year, and of those 7 home floor losses, 6 of them have come by 10 points or less.

I hate to ever use the term unlucky, because I do think that good teams find a way to win close games, where bad teams find a way to lose them, but Nebraska lost to Western Illinois by 1, NC State and Ohio State in overtime, and they had single-digit losses to Creighton, Kansas State, and Indiana. Had the ball bounced in a different direction in a couple of those games, the Huskers would have a much better record right now.

We are going to have to sweat this one out, as Wisconsin is really good, but the Badgers are coming off of their first loss in a month, so Nebraska might have caught them at the perfect time for an upset. I doubt that Nebraska is going to win this game outright, but in the Big 10, if you give me this many points on a home dog, I am betting it blind.

Ohio State Buckeyes at Minnesota Golden Gophers (+6.5)

Stop me if you have heard this one before, but my next pick is coming on, get this, a home underdog in the Big 10! I could spend a bunch of time telling you why Minnesota is better at home than on the road and how Ohio State is 9-0 at home but only 2-4 in road and neutral floor games, but instead, I will take my advice from above and blind bet the home team getting far too many points. Expect Ohio State to likely win the game outright, but just miss the cover, as the Gophers keep it close enough to cash our ticket.

Northeastern Huskies at UNC Wilmington Seahawks (-3.5)

Our final play of the day comes to us from Wilmington, North Carolina, as the Seahawks host the Northeastern Huskies. We already talked about how I think Towson is the best team in the CAA, but it is Wilmington that is undefeated in league play at 6-0, not the Tigers.

The Seahawks seem to be getting better each time out as well, as they have won 9 straight games after a slow start to the season. UNC played at Northeastern on Monday night, winning 74-68, and now that the Seahawks get to play this game at home, I expect them to win by even a larger margin.

But even if the Seahawks are only able to recreate the performance we saw out of them this earlier week, it would still be plenty to cover this number and get us paid. The Huskies haven’t won in forever, as they are riding a 9-game losing streak into play tonight, and I can’t imagine that they are going to get off the schneid tonight against a team that just beat them at home and hasn’t lost in 6 weeks. This one feels like free money, give me the Seahawks at home laying some wood.
