It’s another jam-packed Friday night slate for MLB. That means we have numerous directions in which we can go for this evening’s three-game parlay ticket. We have zeroed in the opening games for a trio of the more intriguing series which will play out this weekend.
First up is an A,merican League East battle in Fenway Park. The Tampa Bay Rays will be in Boston this weekend for a set with the Boston Red Sox. Five games separate these two squads in the standings, and both are looking up at the New York Yankees as they set their sights on making up some ground.
Our next game is a meeting of two potential playoff squads in the National League. The Colorado Rockies will be taking their talents to Citi Field for a series with the New York Mets. The visitors are among the hotter teams with wins in eight of their last 10, while the Mets are riding a two-game winning streak.
The last game for our ticket is an NL West rivalry game in San Francisco. The division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers will be on the road to take on the Giants. The Dodgers send Clayton Kershaw to the mound tonight, while the hosts will respond with a lefty hurler of their own in Drew Pomeranz.
It’ll be a busy night on the diamond across the nation, and we have three quality contests to look forward to. Let’s break down all three of our selected games in full detail, starting with the battle in Boston.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox, 7:10 PM EST, NESN
Rays vs. Red Sox Pick:
The Rays were on the road in Detroit to begin the week. They took two of three over the Tigers, including a 6-1 win in yesterday’s finale. The Red Sox also started off the week on the road. They swept three games over the Kansas City Royals and enter tonight’s contest riding a four-game winning streak.
|Tampa Bay||37-23||W2||6-4||2-AL East||283||199|
These two squads bring matching records of 6-4 over their last 10 games to the table for this series. They’ve hooked up five times already this season with the Red Sox holding a 3-2 edge. Tampa Bay is a stellar 20-9 in road games thus far, while Boston is 14-12 at home on the year.
Boston gets the overall edge and have had the hotter bats of late, but the teams are in range on offense. Austin Meadows tops the Rays with a .349 BA, 12 homers, and 38 RBIs. Brandon Lowe has chipped in with 11 HRs and 36 ribbies. Rafael Devers leads the Red Sox with a .316 BA, while Mitch Moreland is tops with 13 homers. Devers is tied with Xander Bogaerts for the team lead with 40 RBIs.
Chirinos has spent time in the bullpen and shifted around the rotation. For his last outing, he gave up four earned runs over 5.1 innings while taking the loss versus the Minnesota Twins. Porcello has 12 starts under his belt and has had a bit of an up and down year. Last time out, he gave up five earned runs and left after 4.2 innings in a loss to the Yankees.
Rays relievers get more work and do a better job of keeping their opponents off the scoreboard, but Red Sox hurlers are fanning batters at a healthier clip. Chirinos has lasted five innings for his last two outings. Before exiting early last time out, Porcello pitched six innings or more for seven straight games.
Both starters struggled in their last starts, so we could see a good amount of work from both bullpens tonight. We like the Rays to open up this series in Boston with a victory.
Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets, 7:10 PM EST, SNY
Rockies vs. Mets Pick:
The Rockies were in Chicago earlier this week for a three-game set with the Cubs. After dropping the first two games, Colorado bounced back for 3-1 win on Thursday. The Mets started the week by playing host to the Giants. The club dropped the opener before rallying to win the final two by a combined 14-3.
|NY Mets||30-32||W2||4-6||3-NL East||287||303|
This will be the first meeting of the season for these two clubs. The Rockies have been hot of late with a record of 8-2 over their last 10. The Mets have won two in a row and check in with a mark of 17-10 at home. Colorado is 14-17 on the road for the year.
The offenses are pretty close overall, but a slight edge goes to the Rockies. Nolan Arenado leads the way for Colorado with a .337 BA, 16 homers, and 54 RBIs. Trevor Story has contributed 15 HRs and 43 ribbies. Jeff McNeil is batting .345 to lead the way for the Mets. Pete Alonso is tops on the team with 20 homers and 45 RBIs.
Senzatela has 10 starts on the year and has been pretty solid of late with the exception of a blowup spot a few weeks back versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Last time out, he got the win over the Toronto Blue Jays with one earned run over six innings. Through 12 starts, deGorm has been mostly solid with a couple of rough outings. He left his last start after 6.2 innings with a hip cramp.
When the bullpens get involved tonight, the advantage goes to the Rockies. Senzatela has lasted six innings for his last two games and three of his last five overall. deGrom has made it through five innings or more for his last seven outings.
The Rockies have been playing really well overall, but they did come back to earth and lose two of three to the Cubs. We’re rolling with the Mets for game two on tonight’s ticket.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants, 10:15 PM EST, NBCSBA
Dodgers vs. Giants Pick:
The Dodgers were riding a seven-game winning streak heading into Wednesday’s tilt with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The magic came to an end as the club fell by a score of 3-2 in 11 innings. The Giants spent the early part of the week in New York losing two of three to the Mets
|LA Dodgers||43-20||L1||8-2||1-NL West||340||236|
|San Francisco||25-36||L2||4-6||5-NL West||236||317|
These two rivals have already hooked up six times this year. The Dodgers took two of three at home in the first set, but the Giants returned the favor when they played host for the next series. Los Angeles is 18-13 on the road thus far, while San Francisco is just 10-18 at home.
It’s no contest here. The Dodgers have one of the best offenses in MLB, while the Giants have one of the poorest. Cody Bellinger tops the Dodgers with a .370 BA, 20 HRs, and 54 ribbies. Joc Pederson has added in 18 homers and 33 RBIs. Brandon Belt leads the Giants with a .246 BA, nine homers, and 27 RBIs. Pablo Sandoval has contributed eight HRs and 22 ribbies.
Kershaw has held opponents to three earned runs or less in eight of his nine starts this year. Last time out, he gave up a single run over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies. Pomeranz has been blown up in three of his last four starts, and he didn’t make it past the second inning in any of them. For his last start, he gave up eight runs over 1.1 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
While the Giants are lacking on offense, the bullpen has been a bright spot for the team. Kershaw has lasted six innings or more in all of his starts this season. Pomeranz has not made it past four innings in each of his last five appearances.
The Giants are in the basement of the NL West for a reason. It’s tough to see them breaking through versus one of the best pitchers in the game. We like the Dodgers to get the win here.
