NBA Teams vs Spread Report Card: After 51 Games

NBA Teams vs Spread Report Card: After 51 Games

The NBA season is continuing to pick up pace as we get closer and closer to the final stretch. Trade talks are beginning to heat up as some teams look to get more draft picks, while contenders are looking to add some depth for their playoff runs. I believe that we are set up for a really solid final stretch of the season.

Most teams have reached the 51 game mark of the season, which means that they are closing in on only a quarter of the season left. Every ten games or so this season, I have written an article talking about how every team is doing against the spread. This allows for the bettors to see how teams compare with their record against the spread and their regular record. You can find previous versions of this article in the blog section of thesportsgeek.

After Thursday night’s games, Twenty-one of the thirty NBA teams have played 51 games this season. The Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder are all under the 51 game mark this season. This should be a good finish to the season.

Top Teams

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have been doing extremely well against the spread this season. San Antonio is currently sitting fifth place of the Western Conference standings with a record of 31-22. Against the spread though, the Spurs have gone 33-19. San Antonio had a slower start to the season, but have picked up their play in the later half of the season. The Spurs are a great team to look at betting on.

Dallas Mavericks

Dallas has not been doing great in the standings this season, but they have been great against the spread. The Mavericks have a record of 23-28 this season, which has them in twelfth place of the Western Conference. Dallas has gone 32-17-2 against the spread. The Mavericks commonly find themselves as underdogs and they keep the games close.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets have been playing really well as of late and it has helped them jump up in the standings. Brooklyn is currently in sixth place of the Eastern Conference with a record of 28-25. The Nets have gone 30-23 against the spread, which is really solid. Brooklyn has been underdogs in a lot of games, which has helped them earn a top spot against the spread.

Bottom Teams

Phoenix Suns

It seems to be another poor finish in store for the Phoenix Suns this season. The Suns have gone 11-42 to start out the season, which has them in last place in the Western Conference and one win ahead of the New York Knicks for last place in the NBA. Phoenix has not been terrible against the spread, going 22-30-1. The Suns are often large underdogs, but they are not always great at covering their spreads.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers have been on a roller coaster ride so far this season. Los Angeles had a rough start to the season, but picked it up and jumped in the standings. The Lakers then lost LeBron James for an extended period of time and fell a bit. Los Angeles has gone 27-25, which has them in ninth place of the Western Conference standings. The Lakers have not been great against the spread though, putting up a 22-29-1 record.

Washington Wizards

Washington had one of the slowest starts to this season. The Wizards came out of the opening of the season, tripping on themselves. Washington has picked up their play a little bit, but are still not a contender. The Wizards have a record of 22-28-1 against the spread and are 22-29 in the actual standings.

Misleading Teams Against the Spread

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors are once again off to a spectacular season. Golden State has been playing really well as of late and they are sitting in the top spot in the Western Conference with a record of 36-15. The Warriors have not been great against the spread though. Golden State has gone 22-27-2 against the spread this season. The Warriors are favored heavily in most of their games, which makes it difficult for them to consistently cover.

Chicago Bulls

Chicago has fallen pretty far in the standing this season, which has them in twelfth place of the Eastern Conference with a record of 12-40. The Bulls have been doing decent against the spread though, putting up a record of 23-27-2. Chicago keeps a lot of games close, which allows them to cover spreads. I believe they are a team that is worth a look at betting on.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors have earned the second spot in the Western Conference with a 37-16 record this season. Like the Warriors, Toronto has been favored in a lot of their games, which has been hard for them to cover at times. The Raptors have put up a record of 24-29 against the spread. Toronto is a team to be careful of betting on when they are large favorites.

New York Knicks

New York has been off to the worst start of all NBA teams this season. The Knicks have a record of 10-40 on the season. New York has been able to cover a lot of spreads in their losses though. The Knicks have gone 23-26-1 against the spread this season. New York is a team that you could bet on as large underdogs, especially at home.
