NFL Week Ten – Betting Power Rankings for 2019

NFL Team Logos Power Rankings Week 10 - NFL Ball Football Field Background

The Patriots are human, the Ravens just might be title contenders, and the Chiefs can win without Patrick Mahomes! The AFC officially just got interesting! The NFC continues to be uber-competitive, with teams like the Packers, 49ers, Vikings, Panthers, Seahawks and Rams all looking like potential conference champs. Heck, even the dreadfully bad NFC East all the sudden looks decent as the Cowboys and Eagles both have modest winning streaks going. With that, let’s jump into the week ten betting power rankings!

Money Line Power Ranking

Does your favorite team never cover the spread but always ends up winning the game anyway? In this first section, you will find the teams that may not always cover the number, but they win the game and cash money line tickets.

San Francisco 49ers Logo

1. San Francisco 49ers

  • Money Line Record: (8-0)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 2

For the first time all season long, the New England Patriots are not the number one team in the money line rankings, as the San Francisco 49ers overtake them this week, as the lone unbeaten team left in the NFL. The Niners survived a bit of a scare this week as they barely snuck past the Arizona Cardinals on the road, 28-25. I tend to not put too much credence in the Thursday Night Football results, as we never seem to get a representative performance that early in the week.

And, at the end of the day, a win is a win, and the 49ers are undefeated at 8-0. The offense has looked really good in the last two weeks since adding Emmanuel Sanders to the mix, as they have exploded for seventy-nine points in the last two weeks. That compares nicely to the sixty points they had scored in their previous three weeks before making the move.

Sanders has quickly become Jimmy G’s favorite receiving target and has eleven catches and two touchdowns already. The Niners have a big one next week as they host the 7-2 Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, laying -275. That seems like a mighty steep number if you ask me, in what should be a barnburner.

New England Patriots Logo

2. New England Patriots

  • Money Line Record: (8-1)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 1

In last week’s power rankings, I said that if the Patriots were ever going to lose a game this season, it would be this one against Baltimore. They were playing on the road, against a Ravens team that had the second-best record in the conference at 5-2, and they were coming off of a bye. Many people wondered just how good the Patriots would look against the higher level of competition, as before last week’s game their opponents had a combined record of 12-42.

Well, we found out, as they got hammered by the Ravens, 37-20. Social media exploded with talk of the Patriots being overrated after the loss, don’t fall for the bait. This is a good football team that lost in a tough spot. Nobody goes undefeated in the NFL, so they were going to lose at some point, don’t let it distract you from the fact that this is an elite team. The Pats get a week off next week to rest up before heading to Philly for another tough road game against the Eagles.

Baltimore Ravens Logo

3. Baltimore Ravens

  • Money Line Record: (6-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 5

Speaking of the Ravens, here they are at number three this week! The Ravens had a lot of things going their way last week, but knocking off the undefeated Patriots officially makes them a Super Bowl contender. The Ravens have now beaten the Seahawks and the Patriots in back to back weeks and have shown they can play with, and beat, the best teams in the NFL.

Lamar Jackson is very much in the MVP conversation right now, as he added in another strong performance against New England, with three touchdowns, two of them coming on the ground. The schedule has been a tough one recently for Baltimore, but they get a bit of a break next week against the 0-8 Cincinnati Bengals. The -460 line is a big one for a road team, but Baltimore wins with ease in Cincy.

New Orleans Saints Logo

4. New Orleans Saints

  • Money Line Record: (7-1)
  • Last Weeks Rank: Not Ranked

The New Orleans Saints welcomed Drew Brees back to the team in week eight, and the future Hall of Famer didn’t miss a beat. The Saints are expected to get Alvin Kamara back after taking last week off with a bye, and things are only looking up for this team. The Saints are huge favorites next week against an Atlanta Falcons team that looks to be giving up, laying -610. While that number is much too big for me to want to take it, I don’t see New Orleans having much trouble with the Dirty Birdz at home.

Green Bay Packers Logo

5. Green Bay Packers

  • Money Line Record: (7-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 3

After reeling off four straight wins and looking like a true title contender in the NFC, the Packers laid an egg this week in LA, against the Chargers. But if you remember what I said last week, I told you to watch out for this one, as the Chargers were much better than their 3-5 record was telling you. Aaron Rogers was awful, throwing for just 161 yards, and the running game could do nothing all afternoon long. The Packers are overpriced again next week at home against the Carolina Panthers at -240. I will either back Carolina as an upset special, or lay off, as I can’t lay that much wood on the Pack right now against a solid Carolina team.

Against the Spread Power Ranking

The against the spread power rankings is everybody’s favorite section, as it tells you which teams are covering numbers and cashing tickets!

Arizona Cardinals Logo

1. Arizona Cardinals

  • ATS Record: (6-3)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 1

Coming in at number one this week for the second consecutive week are the Arizona Cardinals. The Cards haven’t played a game since last week’s rankings as they played and covered against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, seemingly forever ago. The reason I keep them here at number one? Well, I like this week’s number too. The Cardinals are getting +4.5-points in Tampa Bay against the Bucs. The Cards are better than most people think, but this is mostly a fade of Tampa Bay, as I don’t think they are good enough to lay that many points against a decent team.

New Orleans Saints Logo

2. New Orleans Saints

  • ATS Record: (6-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 2

The New Orleans Saints remain steady at number two this week, after taking a bye in week nine. The only concerns about this team all season long have been injuries, but with Brees back and Kamara soon to follow, this team should be healthy and ready to go in the second half of the season. The bye week came at the perfect time for New Orleans, and they host the Falcons next week, laying a borderline absurd -13-points. I am very rarely laying that many points in an NFL game, but now that the offense is healthy, they just might cover it.

Los Angeles Rams Logo

3. Los Angeles Rams

  • ATS Record: (6-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 5

It was a tough week for the favorites in week nine, so not having to play has helped the Saints and the Rams stay in the top five. The Rams have been elite against the number all season long, and I think they are going to give a wakeup call to the all of the sudden surging Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers have somehow found a way to win four out of their last five games, but those wins have mostly come against bad teams with losing records, like the Dolphins, Chargers, and Bengals. I think the Rams establish the run early on, with Todd Gurley getting the week off to rest his knees, and find a way to cover the -3.5-point number in week ten in Pittsburgh.

New England Patriots Logo

4. New England Patriots

  • ATS Record: (6-3)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 4

While the Pats got a dose of humble pie in week nine, getting battered by the Baltimore Ravens, they are still one of the best ATS teams in the NFL this season at 6-3. The Patriots are one of six teams on bye this week, and they are notoriously really good coming off of a bye week in the Bill Belichick era. The books haven’t posted a number for that one yet, but it is going to be another tough road test for the Patriots, and you won’t want to be laying more than a point or two at the most.

Oakland Raiders Logo

5. Oakland Raiders

  • ATS Record: (5-3)
  • Last Weeks Rank: Not Ranked

The Oakland Raiders are a hard team to keep tabs on this year. They have played a brutal schedule and have a respectable 4-4 record to show for it. Wins over the Bears, Colts, Broncos, and Lions are all decent wins. And losses to the Chiefs, Vikings, Packers, and Texans aren’t anything to be ashamed of. Could this Raiders team find itself in the playoffs in their last season in Oakland before heading to Las Vegas next year?

This week, the Raiders picked up a seven-point win at home against the Detroit Lions. Josh Jacobs looks like the ROY, and he had the best game of his young career with 120 rushing yards and two scores. This team is at their best when they establish the running game and pound the football. The Raiders play the Chargers at home in week ten, who are giving up 114 rushing yards per game. The Raiders are a nice play as home dogs next week, getting a point.

Game Total Power Ranking

Betting the over is everyone’s favorite play in the NFL, so in this final section, we have added a power ranking to show you which teams are consistently going over the total!

Kansas City Chiefs Logo

1. Kansas City Chiefs

  • Over Record: (6-3)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 1

Are the Kansas City Chiefs better with Matt Moore at quarterback than Patrick Mahomes? Absolutely not. But they score a lot of points no matter who is the helm. The Chiefs picked up a huge win this week over a very good Minnesota Vikings team, 26-23, and the game went over, to run the Chiefs record to an NFL best six wins against the total.

The Chiefs trio of passes catchers in Tyreke Hill, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins combined for twenty catches, and Harrison Butker kicked four field goals in the win. Next week the Chiefs play the Tennessee Titans with a total of forty-eight points. Nobody knows if Mahomes will play or not, but I am not sure it matters anyway, as Moore has made it clear he can drive the bus for KC. There are just too many explosive options on the field for Kansas City not to like the over blind at this point.

Carolina Panthers Logo

2. Carolina Panthers

  • Over Record: (6-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 2

The big news out of Carolina this week is that Cam Newton was placed on IR, ending his season and likely his career with the Panthers. Many expected the move, but it doesn’t make it any less shocking that the recent NFL MVP is out of a job. But that is just how good Kyle Allen has been in his short stint as the Panthers signal-caller.

Allen had another strong week, and this team knows where they butter their bread, and that is getting the ball in Christian McCaffrey’s hands. McCaffrey touched the ball twenty-seven times for 166-all-purpose yards and scored three times. The total in week ten for Carolina is a very manageable 46.5-points in Green Bay against the Packers, and the over is amongst my favorite bets on the board in week ten.

Detroit Lions Logo

3. Detroit Lions

  • Over Record: (6-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 3

The Detroit Lions continued their high scoring ways this week, going over the total for the third week in a row. This week, the Lions were on the wrong end of yet another shootout, losing 31-24 to the Oakland Raiders. Matthew Stafford continues to rack up gaudy stats for Detroit as he threw for over 400-yards and three touchdowns. The Lions have the lowest total on the board next week against the Chicago Bears at just 41.5-points. That Bears defense can be awfully tough, but with a total so low, it is hard not to like the over.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Logo

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Over Record: (6-2)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 4

Last week, I said that the Bucs and Seahawks game could hit a hundred points, and I wasn’t even exaggerating all that much. The game itself went into overtime, and by the time all the smoke cleared there were 74-points up on the board. Tampa Bay continues to be the most exciting team in the league to watch as far as points go, as they have now gone over the total in six straight games, with none of those games scoring under 50-points.

Next week, the Bucs have the highest total on the board at 51-points in their home game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have scored at least 25-points in four out of their last five games themselves, and you can expect more fireworks in week ten.

Oakland Raiders Logo

5. Oakland Raiders

  • Over Record: (4-3)
  • Last Weeks Rank: 5

The entire top five of the totals power ranking remains unchanged this week as all five teams went over. We already talked about the Raiders game that coasted to the over in a shootout with the Lions. The Raiders have now scored at least 24-points in five straight games. Next week, Oakland hosts the Chargers with a total of 49-points. The Chargers are starting to look better now that Melvin Gordon is back on the field, but that number feels a little high if you ask me, so I’ll likely stay away.

Wrap Up

And here they are folks, my betting power rankings for week ten! We are finally seeing some strong trends in each of the various rankings, and there is a lot of money to be made betting the NFL in the next several weeks. Thank you for reading, and good luck betting the NFL in week 10!
