NFL Wild Card Weekend Betting Preview And Top Betting Trends

NFL Wild Card Weekend Betting Preview And Top Betting Trends

It’s time to put together a betting plan for the NFL Playoffs. Ensuring that you have a proper bankroll and setting your betting unit for the playoffs is the first step.

If you have a unit for the regular season, you should use the same bet size for the playoffs. Don’t overreach because it’s playoff football. All of the games mean the same for your bankroll.

Using betting trends in your analysis of games can be important. Keep in mind that it isn’t everything, though. Betting trends can be used as one part of your research, but using it as a gold standard for your picks isn’t in your best interest.

Using a holistic approach and considering everything is the best course of action. Having said that, trends can be an important foundation for your research into games.

Ignoring them before locking in your wagers and failing to consider trends isn’t in your best interest, either. There is no denying some trends are fluff stats, though. We’ll look past the fluff and summarize the top betting trends for NFL Wild Card Weekend.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Date and Time: January 15, 4:35 p.m. EST

The following odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
Las Vegas Raiders +5 (-110) +194 Over 49 (-110)
Cincinnati Bengals -5 (-110) -224 Under 49 (-110)

The Las Vegas Raiders travel to Ohio after reaching the playoffs on the heels of a 35-32 win in overtime against the LA Chargers. They didn’t need the win. A tie would have been sufficient as well.

The win sends the Raiders to Cincinnati, where a red-hot Bengals team is waiting. Las Vegas won four straight to get into the playoffs, so they haven’t been playing their worst football, either.

One of their wins was as 8.5-point underdogs over the Indianapolis Colts on the road, 23-20. They also beat the Browns on the road, 16-14, and Broncos, 17-13.

The Raiders will have to cool off the hot hand of Joe Burrow if they’re leaving Ohio with a ticket to the Divisional Round. Burrow has passed for 10 touchdowns and 1,476 yards through his last four games.

Cincinnati is winners in three of their last four, only dropping a meaningless Week 18 outing in the final week in Cleveland. If Burrow lost his stroke after taking last week off, maybe the Raiders are a live dog in the Wild Card.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Cincinnati Bengals Betting Trends:

Raiders

  • 0-5 ATS in their previous five games versus the Bengals
  • 0-6 ATS in their previous six games at Cincinnati
  • 6-2 ATS in their previous eight games as an underdog on the road
  • 10-4 overall in their previous 14 games on the road
  • OVER is 14-6 in their previous 20 games as an underdog

Bengals

  • 4-0 ATS in their previous four games
  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games versus a team with a winning record
  • 6-2 ATS in their previous eight games after a loss
  • 0-6-1 ATS in their previous seven playoff games
  • OVER is 4-0 in their previous four games as a betting favorite at Cincinnati

New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills

Date and Time: January 15, 8:15 p.m. EST

The following odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
New England Patriots +4 (-110) +170 Over 43.5 (-110)
Buffalo Bills -4 (-110) -195 Under 43.5 (-110)

Two rivals of the AFC East converge in Orchard Park for their third meeting this season. The New England Patriots and Buffalo Bulls have the ultimate rubber matchup on Saturday night. The stakes are high with a trip to the Divisional Round on the line in this one.

The Patriots won the first game in terrible conditions in Orchard Park. It was the worst weather game of the season, with the wind blowing and snow making conditions poor on Monday Night Football. Mac Jones passed thrice for the ball, and the Patriots still won the slugfest on December 6, 14-10.

The Bills went to Foxborough for a 33-21 win in calmer conditions. Josh Allen passed confidently, with 314 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Jones probably should have just thrown it three times. Jones passed for 145 yards and 2 interceptions. They might have had a better chance with keeping the ball on the ground.

The Patriots are coming off an uninspiring performance in Miami. They were still alive in the AFC East title race, but didn’t look too motivated with the Bills playing the Jets. The Patriots needed a win and the Jets to win. The defense was worked in a 33-24 loss at Miami.

Buffalo were too close with the Jets for 3 quarters, but the Bills pulled away for a 27-10 win to clinch the AFC East. The Bills have won four in a row and have to be confident in the Wild Card. Mac Jones is stumbling down the stretch, but the Bill Belichick factor makes the Patriots a potential barking dog.

New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills Betting Trends:

Patriots

  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five playoff games on the road
  • 8-3 ATS in their previous 11 games
  • 5-2 ATS in their previous seven games after a loss
  • 9-1 overall in their previous ten games at Buffalo
  • OVER is 8-2 in their previous ten games versus the AFC

Bills

  • 6-1-1 ATS in their previous eight games versus the AFC East
  • 9-4-2 ATS in their previous 15 games at Buffalo
  • 2-4 ATS in their previous six games on Saturday at Buffalo
  • 1-3-1 ATS in their previous five games after covering the spread
  • 1-9 overall in their previous ten games versus the Patriots at Buffalo

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Date and Time: January 16 , 1:00 p.m. EST

The following odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
Philadelphia Eagles +9 (-109) +320 Over 46 (-110)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -9 (-111) -400 Under 46 (-110)

On Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet at Raymond James Stadium in the first Wild Card. Philadelphia is looking for the upset against Tom Brady and the Bucs.

Jalen Hurts has a big challenge ahead of him in Tampa, but it isn’t impossible. The Eagles have a nice offensive line and run the ball effectively. It’s going to come down to whether the dominant offensive line of the Eagles get enough push on a dominant defensive line of the Bucs.

Run the ball, eat clock, and keep Tom Brady off the field. It sounds simple, but we’re talking about Brady. If the Eagles can do that efficiently enough, they will hang around against the Bucs.

The Eagles got hot on a four-game winning streak to clinch a spot in the playoffs. After clinching, they sat Hurts on the bench for the season finale in a meaningless game.

Tampa hasn’t looked as strong as last year, but this is still a dangerous team. The Bucs have won seven of their previous eight attempts, including a blowout of 41-17 over the Panthers to close out the regular season.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Trends:

Eagles

  • 10-1 ATS in their previous 11 playoff games as an underdog
  • 8-2 ATS in their previous ten playoff games on the road
  • 4-2 ATS in their previous six games versus the Buccaneers
  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games as an underdog
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games on the road versus a team with a winning home record

Buccaneers

  • 6-1 ATS in their previous seven games at Tampa Bay
  • 6-2 ATS in their previous eight games as a betting favorite
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games versus the NFC
  • 1-5 ATS in their previous six games as a betting favorite
  • 0-5 ATS in their previous five Wild Card games

San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys

Date and Time: January 16, 4:30 p.m. EST

The following odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
San Francisco 49ers +3 (-104) +139 Over 51 (-105)
Dallas Cowboys -3 (-110) -116 Under 51 (-110)

In what I view as the most intriguing matchup of Wild Card Weekend, the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys square off at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys have been good this season, but the 49ers can end their season in one game on Sunday.

Dallas finished the season at 12-5 and have a win in five of their last seven attempts. Since the beginning of December, their only loss is a 25-22 final two weeks back versus the Arizona Cardinals.

They finished off the season with a 51-26 win over the Eagles, though a game that didn’t matter much. Dallas has to be feeling good about their chances. However, we’ve seen them disappoint in the playoffs before.

San Francisco needed to beat the Rams, and they did in the final game of the regular season calendar. In a thrilling conclusion, they beat the Rams in overtime by a field goal, 27-24, and clinched a spot in the Wild Card.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys Betting Trends:

49ers

  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games as an underdog
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games
  • 9-4 ATS in their previous 13 games as an underdog on the road
  • 7-0 ATS in their previous seven games in January
  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten games on the road

Cowboys

  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games as a betting favorite
  • 14-3 ATS in their previous 17 games versus the NFC
  • 16-5 ATS in their previous 21 games
  • 1-5 ATS in their previous six playoff games
  • 1-7 ATS in their previous eight games in January

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Date and Time: January 16, 8:15 p.m. EST

The following odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
Pittsburgh Steelers +12.5 (-110) +550 Over 66 (-110)
KC Chiefs -12.5 (-110) -750 Under 66 (-110)

The biggest favorite in the Wild Card is the Kansas City Chiefs. They just missed out on a first-round bye and will have to settle for a Sunday night matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Tennessee Titans have the AFC Wild Card bye, just barely edging out the Chiefs.

Steelers fans were sweating the Chargers and Raiders game out this past Sunday night. It was a wild conclusion to the regular season, with a tie in that one removing the Steelers from the playoffs. They also needed the Jaguars to beat the Colts, which ended up having earlier in the afternoon.

Pittsburgh is playing with house money. They’re 9-7 and on the road at the 12-5 Chiefs. All of this is house money for the Steelers on Sunday night. It’s a tough ask for the Steelers, but teams with nothing to lose can be dangerous.

The Chiefs started slow this season, though they got going after a 27-3 loss to the Titans on October 24. They’re a winner in nine of their previous ten attempts. Pittsburgh has been playing good defense. However, Ben Roethlisberger will be forced to come up with plays against Patrick Mahomes.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Betting Trends:

Steelers

  • 2-6-2 ATS in their previous ten playoff games
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games after a win
  • 1-7 ATS in their previous eight games after covering the spread
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games versus the AFC
  • 4-2 ATS in their previous six games

Chiefs

  • 4-0 ATS in their previous five games at Kansas City
  • 6-2 ATS in their previous eight games
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games versus a team with a winning record
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games versus the AFC North
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games in January

Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Rams

Date and Time: January 17, 8:15 p.m. EST

The following odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
Arizona Cardinals +4 (-110) +165 Over 49.5 (-107)
LA Rams -4 (-110) -190 Under 49.5 (-113)

The Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams meet in a rare Monday night playoff game. Arizona is crawling into the playoffs after a red-hot start this season. They are going into this one with losses in four of their last five outings.

The Cardinals could have hosted the Rams in this one, but they lost their season finale by 38-30. That was a gutless effort in an important game. Maybe not the most important, though I wanted to see the Cardinals continue their good form after beating the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington.

That said, if the Cardinals bring the same effort as they did versus the Cowboys, the Rams will be in tough. The Rams have a win in four of thier previous five outings but couldn’t guarantee the NFC West after losing to the 49ers in overtime, 27-24. Arizona bailed them out in that one.

In their most recent game versus the Cardinals on December 13, they emerged as 30-23 winners at Arizona. It should be an entertaining matchup to close out Wild Card Weekend in the NFL.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Rams Betting Trends:

Cardinals

  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games
  • 3-8 ATS in their previous 11 games versus a team with a winning record
  • 2-8 ATS in their previous ten games on a Monday
  • 1-8-1 ATS in their previous ten games versus the Rams
  • 8-1 ATS in their previous nine games on the road

Rams

  • 3-7 ATS in their previous ten games as a betting favorite
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five playoff games at Los Angeles
  • 1-5 ATS in their previous six games versus a team with a winning record
  • 11-4-1 ATS in their previous 16 games after a loss
  • 4-2 ATS in their previous six games
