Cincinnati vs. UCF Pick – February 26th

We are headed in search of our sixth straight College Hoops Winner here on TheSportsGeek with a look at the Cincinnati Bearcats visiting the UCF Knights.

Well, I did NOT see that one coming… Gonzaga was not only unbeaten, but also boasted the nation’s best ATS mark in conference play at 13-3-1 ATS and hadn’t had a home game within 23 points in league play.  They were 19-20 point favorites at home against BYU.  And LOST.  Straight-up LOST in one of the biggest ATS upsets of the college basketball season.

Some might debate this opens up the possibility of the Zags losing a #1 seed in the process, but unless they get smoked in the WCC Tournament, I don’t see how you can drop them for ONE loss.  But make no mistake, the NAME BYU makes that loss seem reasonable, but they lost at home as a 20 point favorite.

Speaking of favorites, a few familiar ones got back in forefront of the conversation last night with Kentucky and UCLA knocking off conference foes who were beginning to steal some of their shine in Florida and Arizona.  Does that mean order is restored, or simply that this thing is WIDE OPEN this year…

Meanwhile, we reeled off a fifth straight college basketball winner on TheSportsGeek to keep the good times rolling this college basketball season.  Let’s see if we can cap off the week with a perfect half-dozen.

Today’s College Basketball Pick:

Cincinnati Bearcats -5.5 at UCF Knights

Cincinnati enters today a nice 14-1 in conference with their only loss coming at NCAA-bound SMU.  Aside from that blemish, it has been a perfect AAC campaign for Mick Cronin and the Cats.  They are 14-0 as the favorite in conference play this season and 22-1 overall this season as the favored squad.  That tells me, even at home, UCF has their worWek cut out for them.

The Knights have made nice strides in Johnny Dawkins first season at the helm and look to be laying the foundation for a good program in Orlando.  They enter today at 18-10, but they are just 9-7 in conference.  More troubling, they are just 2-5 SU as an underdog this season, meaning in big “test” games like today, they have consistently come up short.

The Knights have never beaten the Bearcats in their brief seven-game history, and I think that streak remains intact tonight.  Cincinnati is just a little too talented for the Knights in Dawkins’s first season.  Maybe next year with a good recruiting class and a another year of development from 7’7’’ Tacko Fall, but for the here and now?  The Knights, and Tacko, Fall to the Cats.

Today’s Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats -5.5
