Eastern Kentucky Colonels vs. USC Trojans Pick – NCAAB December 7, 2021

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels and USC Trojans are scheduled to meet at the Galen Center at the University of Southern California. USC is ranked at No. 16 going into tonight.

The Trojans are a perfect 8-0 and coming off a hard-fought 63-61 win on the road against the Washington State Cougars. They were slight underdogs in that one, but beat the market and won straight up.

Prior to that win, they outperformed what oddsmakers predicted against the Utah Utes. USC made it look easy as 7.5-point favorites for a 93-73 win on December 1.

This was after winning on a neutral court against a good San Diego State squad, 58-43. I don’t know if USC is ready to compete with the Duke’s of the country, but USC has played well and might give UCLA a run in the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 just hasn’t had good basketball over the past several years, and it would be nice to see USC and UCLA back in the national spotlight. Both teams still have a lot to prove, though I’ve liked where the Trojans are heading.

They welcome an Eastern Kentucky squad that is going into tonight with a record of 5-4. They will look for an upset to end a three-game skid against the Trojans.

The Colonels are coming off a 85-80 loss on the road at Western Kentucky. This was after a bad effort at Radford for a 88-75 loss.

More was expected from Eastern Kentucky in that spot as 6.5-point favorites. There is nothing wrong with their ability to score, but paper thin on the defensive floor. Head below for our free Eastern Kentucky vs. USC pick on December 7, 2021.

Eastern Kentucky vs. USC Prediction:

Eastern Kentucky looks like the same team as last season. They attack the rim and can score, but can give up a lot on the other side.

When Eastern Kentucky isn’t scoring, games can get away from the Colonels quickly. The Colonels were eighth in the NCAA last season with 81.8 points in 2020-21.

However, they were towards the back in the NCAA defensively with 73.7 points against per game. Eastern Kentucky finished with a record of 22-7, and it could have been better with some defense.

The problem for Eastern Kentucky is when they have a matchup versus a team that can play defense. That’s something the Trojans can do well.

USC has allowed 60.5 points per game for 49th in the NCAA. They’ve held opponents to a marginal field goal percentage of 35.2%, fifth best.

Also note while Eastern Kentucky is scoring with 82.4 points per game, they did this against some bad defenses. They are shooting just 43.5% from the field for 218th in the NCAA.

Eastern Kentucky Colonels vs. USC Trojans Betting Trends:

Eastern Kentucky

  • 13-6 ATS in their previous 19 games as an underdog
  • 12-4 ATS in their previous 16 games as an underdog on the road
  • 4-1 ATS in their previous five games after failing to cover the spread
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games on the road versus a team with a winning home percentage better than 60%
  • OVER is 6-2 in their previous eight games as an underdog

  • 5-0 ATS in their previous five games as a favorite at USC
  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games
  • 7-2 ATS in their previous nine games as a favorite
  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six games after a win
  • 6-2 ATS in their previous eight games versus a team with a winning record

Evan Mobley might be in the NBA, but brother Isaiah is still in college. He and Chevez Goodwin in the frontcourt should make it tough on Eastern Kentucky to get comfortable against their defense.

USC is capable of going with three guards and two forwards, or three forwards with Max Agbonkpolo starting. Along with Agbonkpolo on the floor in this one, USC looks far too long for Eastern Kentucky.

The Trojans’ defense should be able to put clamps down on Eastern Kentucky’s offense. The Colonels aren’t going to have any answers on defense, we know that much.

The rebounding advantage for USC is huge on Tuesday night. Eastern Kentucky is 328th in defensive rebounding. The Trojans on the offensive boards? Ninth.

USC is too big and long for the Colonels to keep up on Tuesday. Second chance points aren’t going to be there for Eastern Kentucky.

I like the Trojans in a 85-63 final at home for a win and cover to go to 9-0 on the year.
