The 11-14 Bulldogs travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina Monday night to take on the 15-9 Fighting Camels as the Big South postseason tournament quarterfinals get underway. Gardner-Webb, the No. 6 seed, was able to advance through a COVID-19 forfeit by No.11 seed Charleston Southern. These two teams met twice in the regular season, splitting the season series on back-to-back nights, with the Bulldogs winning the finale 85-70. The Camels won seven in a row to close out the regular season, putting them in a great position to make a run in the conference tournament and perhaps secure the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Gardner Webb Runnin BulldogsGardner-Webb is led by guard Jaheam Cornwall, who averages 14.3 points per game.Cornwall averaged just 10 points per game in the regular-season meetings against Campbell on 38-percent shooting. The Bulldogs will need to find a way for him to get going if they want their season to continue.

Campbell Fighting Camels LogoCampbell is led by forward Cedric Henderson Jr., who is tied for fifth in the conference in scoring with 16 points per game. The Camels excelled on the offensive end throughout conference play, ranking first in field-goal shooting percentage and three-point percentage. Campbell also has been formidable on defense, allowing just 29-percent shooting from three- point range to its opponents. That could prove to be the difference Monday night, considering the Bulldogs generated 37 percent of their points in conference play from beyond the arc.

Please Note:
The first two meetings were both at Gardner-Webb back on Jan. 3-4. Now the Camels are playing their best basketball of the season and get their crack at the Bulldogs on their home court. While homecourt has not been as valuable this season for most teams because of the lack of fans, it has been for these two teams. Gardner-Webb is 4-10 away from home while Campbell is 8-3 on its home court.

Campbell’s biggest weakness is in its lack of rebounding ability. But even in that vulnerable area, Gardner-Webb is not the team to exploit the Camels’ shortcomings, considering the Bulldogs are one of the smaller teams in the Big South and often encounter their own rebounding issues as a result. The wrong team is favored in this one. Take the Camels as short home favorites to advance to the Big South semifinals.

The Bets
Campbell -2
