Clemson -3.5 (-110) -170 U 129.5 (-110)

The 12-5 Tigers welcome the 9-7 Yellow Jackets into Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, South Carolina on Friday night for an ACC showdown. Clemson was able to dominate Syracuse last Saturday, winning 78-61. Georgia Tech was at home Wednesday where the Yellow Jackets lost 57-49 to No. 9 Virginia.

These two teams met in Atlanta back on Jan. 20, where the Yellow Jackets dominated the Tigers and were able to roll to an 83-65 win.

Georgia Tech is led by guard Jose Alvarado, who averages a team-high 17.6 points per game and has wreaked havoc on the defensive side of the ball, leading the conference with three steals per game. Alvarado was held to eight points in the first matchup, but he made his presence felt with four steals. The Yellow Jackets’ leading scorer in the first matchup was guard Marcus Devoe, who was able to record 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

The Tigers utilize a well-rounded attack, but their leading scorer is Aamir Simms who averages 12.6 points per game to along with 6.2 rebounds. Simms had 19 points on 9-of-13 from the field in the first matchup, proving that he is a difficult matchup for the Yellow Jackets.

While the Yellow Jackets are outstanding on the defensive end of the floor, hat does not mean they own the kind of defense that can allow this game to stay below the Over/Under total of 130.5 points. Georgia Tech won the last matchup by forcing 19 turnovers and getting out in transition. The O/U total for this game is an overreaction to the Yellow Jackets’ only mustering up 49 points on Wednesday against Virginia, but games against the defensive-minded, slow-paced Cavaliers are an anomaly for almost any team.

The previous matchup between these two combined for 148 points and a large reason for that was Georgia Tech shooting over 50 percent from the field and over 60 percent on 3-pointers.

That said, an 18.5-point drop down in the O/U total feels excessive. Clemson has shot the ball well in its previous two games and it is clear there is a comfort level for Georgia Tech against the Clemson defense. Take the Over in this one.
