The 16-2 Cougars head to Tampa Bay, Florida to take on the 7-5 Bulls on Wednesday night. Houston was upset as a 16.5-point favorite its last game against East Carolina last Wednesday, 82-73. South Florida has not played in over a month because of a string of COVID-19 pandemic-related postponements. The Bulls’ last game was on Jan. 9 when they defeated the same East Carolina squad that Houston just lost to, 69-63. The looming question for tonight is how will South Florida respond following seven consecutive postponed games?

Houston Cougars Logo
The Cougars are led by guard Quentin Grimes who leads the team with 16.2 points per game. Grimes has struggled over the past two games, however, shooting 4-of-18 from the field while failing to reach double figures in scoring in either contest.

South Florida Bulls Logo
The Bulls are led by guard David Collins who averages 12.2 points per game. As Collins’ goes, South Florida goes, at least when the team is allowed on the court. Collins has eclipsed 15 points in seven games and the Bulls are 4-2 in those games.

Please Note:
If South Florida has any chance to pull off this upset they will need a big game from Collins. Houston has been the class of the American Athletic Conference the entire season. The Cougars not only have been winning, but they also boast a 12-4 record against the spread this season. South Florida has not played a basketball game in over a month. Combine that with the fact the Cougars are coming off their worst game of the year, and the Bulls are in big trouble. Houston will come out firing on all cylinders, which makes the best bet of the game for Houston to cover the first-half spread before garbage time commences at some point in the second half. South Florida will likely come out playing sloppy, error-filled basketball. A pause in basketball activities that long has had an effect on some of the best teams in the country. There is no substitute for playing games and that provides Houston a large advantage in the first half of this contest. The play is to take Houston -7.5 points in the opening half.
