There are a bevy of postponed college basketball games on the schedule on Tuesday. At least eight have been scrapped for now. There could be more by the time I’m done writing this preview. Of the games that got called, Seton Hall and Xavier might have been the most intriguing.
Kentucky was postponed as well, though that is just delaying the inevitable of a win against Detroit Mercy. Our Pepperdine and UNLV game was called at what felt like the last minute on Monday night in Las Vegas. That was cancelled, so they may not try to make that game back later on in the season. This was the second straight UNLV game that was called because of Covid-19.
Northern Arizona and Colorado State did play in Fort Collins and it was deja vu for the Lumberjacks. They had a decent first half get wiped out by a horrible effort in the second half. Colorado State blew the game open to outscore Northern Arizona in the second by a score of 56-20.
It’s not the first time that Northern Arizona decided to take the game off following halftime. They ultimately lost 91-52 to give us an easy cover on the Rams. Hopefully we can repeat on Tuesday. We have a couple of college basketball picks scheduled, with the Loyola Chicago Ramblers and Wisconsin Badgers getting us going in Madison.
Loyola Chicago is looking to spring an upset at the University of Wisconsin in this contest. The Ramblers went on an epic run in the NCAA Tournament in 2017 to reach the Final Four, ultimately losing to the Michigan Wolverines. While they didn’t get to complete the Cinderella story, it was something to be very proud about for Loyola Chicago.
They enter Wisconsin with a perfect 3-0 record, but have not played anyone worth anything yet. Loyola Chicago has wins over Lewis, Chicago State, and UIC. They are coming off a 77-66 win over the Flames of UIC. That’s the best team that Loyola has played so far, but that’s going to change against the No. 12 Badgers on Tuesday night. Head below for our free Loyola Chicago vs. Wisconsin pick for December 15, 2020.
Loyola Chicago Ramblers vs. Wisconsin Badgers NCAA Betting Odds:
Loyola Chicago vs. Wisconsin Prediction:
Loyola Chicago took care of business and blew out Lewis, 76-48, and Chicago State, 88-51, with ease to open the season. There were no surprises in either game. Lewis and Chicago State had no hope, but UIC was able to make things a little more interesting. Loyola was in control of that game, though UIC remained within striking distance throughout. The Flames were just unable to get over the hump and go on a run.
Loyola is coming off a 21-11 season a season ago. They finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference with a record of 13-5. The offense goes through center Cameron Krutwig and he returns for his senior season in 2020-21. Krutwig averaged 15.1 points and 8.1 rebounds a season ago. Weak teams in the paint need not apply against Krutwig, because he’s going to bully his way around against smaller teams.
Unfortunately for Loyola, that’s not going to be the case against the Badgers. Wisconsin is a physical team that will make Loyola work for every basket. The defense has been in great form for the Badgers this season, as they’ve conceded 59.2 points a game for 30th in the country. That includes playing tough against a good Marquette team and holding them to 65 points, though the offense sputtered to 63 points in a loss on the road.
The Ramblers have been effective offensively, with 80.3 points per game going into Tuesday. They haven’t been tested against a rock solid defense yet, though. Their first big test will be on the road in Madison. This looks like a situation where Loyola should stick around and make this a game in the first half, but eventually wear down in the second half. Wisconsin should be able to frustrate Krutwig and contain him enough to keep the Ramblers off balance. This looks like a 77-65 game for the Badgers at home on Tuesday night.
