I have been riding this Florida State Seminoles team all season long. In my estimation, they are one of the very best teams in the country, and when I get any opportunity to back that at a reasonable number, I almost always take advantage of it. So, last night when I saw that I could back them at just -1-point, against North Carolina State, I jumped all over it.

The Wolfpack showed a lot of heart early on, and they even took a small lead into halftime, but in the second half, the cream rose to the top, and the Seminoles won this one going away. It wasn’t exactly pretty, but a win is a win for a Florida State team with dreams of an ACC regular-season title. The Noles are tied with Duke and Louisville, with three league losses apiece, with just a handful of games left on the schedule.
For NC State, they didn’t have the complete letdown game that I was expecting after knocking off Duke in their last win, but the loss certainly hurts their NCAA tournament chances. And it’s not that a loss to Florida State will be a blemish on their record, but a win would have all but punched their ticket.
Of their last four regular-season games, three of them are very winnable against North Carolina, Wake Forrest, and Pittsburgh. The Wolfpack must find a way to win each of those games. For today’s daily betting pick, we will head to the Big 10, where Maryland plays Ohio State.
- Maryland Terrapins (22-4) at Ohio State Buckeyes (17-9)
- Value City Arena, Columbus
- 1:00 PM PST
- TV: CBS
The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to add a signature win to their resume tonight, as they host the Maryland Terrapins in a Big 10 battle. The Buckeyes started out slow in conference play as they lost six out of their first eight league games, but since then, they have righted the ship, and they have won five out of their last seven games. While the Buckeyes are safely inside of the field of sixty-eight at this point, a win over a top-10 ranked Maryland team could move them up a line or two on Selection Sunday.

For Maryland, the Terrapins have put some distance between themselves and the rest of the Big 10, as they now have a full two-game lead over second-place Penn State and a three-game lead over several teams tied for third place. The Terrapins have been on absolute fire in Big 10 play as they have won nine straight games, including wins on the road over the likes of Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana, and Northwestern.
Ohio State Buckeyes
It is really hard to put your finger on just how good of a team they have this season at Ohio State. They won their first nine games of the year, including signature wins over Cincinnati, Villanova, and Penn State, and they rose to as high as number three in the nation in the AP Poll. But then things took a turn for the worse as they lost seven out of ten games and dropped to the basement of the Big 10.
They have since recovered, but you have to wonder, what team are you getting when Ohio State plays? Is it the team that beat Kentucky and Villanova, or is it the team that lost to Minnesota twice and bubble teams like Indiana and Wisconsin? While most of the Buckeyes losses have come on the road, they did lose to Wisconsin and Minnesota at home, and their four home wins in league play?
They all came against teams in the bottom half of the standings in the Big 10. Wins over Purdue, Rutgers, Indiana, and Nebraska are decent ones, but when you look forward on the schedule for Ohio State, they still play Maryland, Michigan, Illinois, and Michigan State. Are tough times ahead for Ohio State?
We all know how great the Big 10 is top to bottom. They are going to threaten with getting as many as twelve teams into the tournament, and they should for sure get nine or ten into the Big Dance. But there seems to be this misconception that while it is a very good league, that the Big 10 doesn’t have a team that could win it all. For those of you that think the Big 10 can’t win the national title, I present to you, the Maryland Terrapins.
The Terrapins are a senior-led team with an elite defense and a very efficient offense. And when you look at their resume, they have as many quality wins of any team in the nation. Against the top-100, they are 12-4. They have top-100 wins over Rhode Island, Marquette, Illinois (twice), Notre Dame, Indiana (twice), Ohio State, Purdue, Iowa, Rutgers, and Michigan State.
Who Do I Like?
The strongest trend bet I have made this year has been on backing Big 10 home teams. The league has been dominated by the home teams, and I have taken full advantage of it. The one team that I have been backing profitably on the road, though, has been this Maryland Terrapins team. I bet on them twice in the last two weeks on the road, both times as underdogs, against Michigan State and Illinois, and both times they won the game outright.
And I am just not sure I am a believer in this Ohio State team. What they did in the non-conference was impressive, but right now, they are below .500 in league play. They have one really good win in league play, and that came against Penn State in early December before confernce play had actually started. Since then, all of their wins have come against the bottom half of the league.
When these two teams matched up in Maryland earlier this season, the game wasn’t very competitive. Maryland jumped out to an early lead and led comfortably by double-digits most of the second half. And while I certainly know that playing at home is much different than on the road, especially in the Big 10 this season, I am not sure the change of venue is going to turn a twelve-point win into a three-point loss.
I talked earlier about how, if I get the chance to back Florida State at a reasonable number, that I am taking them every time. I feel the same way about this Maryland team. This team is just too talented to not want to back them getting points, no matter who they are playing. And the fact that I can get three points makes it that much juicier.
If I had to take a hard stance on a side, I am likely picking Maryland in the upset. Being able to back them at +3-points, is a great little insurance policy in case the ball doesn’t bounce our way late. Give me the Maryland Terrapins +2.5-points tonight in Columbus!
