The 14-10 Spartans travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Thursday night to take on the 18-2 Wolverines in a battle of in-state Big Ten conference rivals. Michigan State completed the season sweep of Indiana on Tuesday night with a 64-58 win. Michigan suffered its second loss of the season on Tuesday in surprising blowout fashion at home to Illinois, 76-53. These two teams are closing out their regular seasons with two consecutive games against one another over the final four days.
This is a big opportunity for the Spartans, who currently reside on the bubble of the NCAA tournament. At least splitting the two upcoming tests against the highly ranked Wolverines could go a long way toward solidifying Michigan State’s NCAA tournament chances. Michigan State is led by guard Aaron Henry, who leads the team at 15.4 points per game.
Michigan is led by center Hunter Dickinson, who averages 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. The 7-foot-2, 255-pound Dickinson is typically a mismatch for opposing defenses. However, last time out Illinois’ Kofi Cockburn held Dickinson to six points on 1-of-8 from the field.
Michigan has been favored in all 20 games they have played this season, and they own an impressive 15-5 record against the spread. While it’s true that Michigan State has played better basketball as of late, the Spartans are just 8-16 against the spread this season.
