The Oregon State Beavers and California Golden Bears are scheduled to meet at Haas Pavilion on Thursday night at the University of California-Berkeley.
Oregon State is looking for just their second win of the season after getting out to a 1-6 start in 2021. The Beavers lost talent in the offseason, but Oregon State was hoping for some better this season.

There is time for Oregon State to flip this season around. The same aggressive defense that we saw last season hasn’t made an appearance consistently this season.
Oregon State went 20-13 last season and made it all the way to the Elite Eight. It was a major success for the Beavers. They rode their defense and timely shooting to an Elite Eight berth.
They put an end to another storybook attempt from Loyola-Chicago with a 65-58 in the Sweet Sixteen. However, the Beavers were stopped by Houston with a 67-61 loss.
They ran into a team that was even better defensively than them. With key players on that team moving into the real world after college, Oregon State isn’t the same roster.
Cal is coming off a 65-57 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs to prevent a three-game slide. They’ve looked better since losing to the Florida Gators by 20 points, 80-60.
The Golden Bears had a good attempt in a 62-59 loss to a very good Seton Hall team on November 24, and then advanced to 3-4 with the win over Fresno State.

Oregon State vs. California Prediction:
If Oregon State isn’t going to be as active on defense as they were last year, they’re going to have to attempt to push the ball more and score points.
They can win a lot of games if the defensive intensity returns, but we haven’t seen it thus far from the Beavers.
Last season, the Beavers allowed an average of 67.6 points per game to finish inside the top-100. It wasn’t necessarily what they did early in the season.
Oregon State came together in the second-half and frustrated offenses. Maybe it will take an extra minute or two for the same this season.
Oregon State is 205th in defense in the NCAA going into Cal tonight. Teams have found success with a 42.6% field goal percentage versus Oregon State, with the Beavers 197th in the country in that regard.
They haven’t found the offense to pick up for the lack of defense. Oregon State is 287th in the nation with 65.7 points per game. Their offensive production tanks on the road to 54 points per game.
Oregon State Beavers vs. California Golden Bears Betting Trends:
Oregon State
- 1-6 ATS in their previous seven games

- 4-12 overall in their previous 16 games on the road
- 1-9 overall in their previous ten games at Cal

- 4-1 ATS in their previous five games as a favorite at Cal

Cal goes into tonight with 67.4 points against per game for 162nd in the NCAA. Teams are shooting 41.7% versus the Golden Bears through seven games.
Their offense has been about on par with Oregon State, having notched 64.7 points per game. However, Cal is in much better form at home with 70.5 points scored per game.
Oregon State is coming off an ugly 60-45 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions. They should be better in this one, but Cal has been progressing in their last two attempts and they have home court advantage.
In a game I see playing out in favor of Cal by a score of 65-60 or 68-61, give me the Golden Bears to win and cover in Berkeley this evening.
