Richmond Spiders vs. St. Bonaventure Bonnies Pick – NCAAB March 4, 2022

The Richmond Spiders and St. Bonaventure Bonnies close out the Atlantic 10 regular season with a meeting in Allegany, New York. You may not pay attention to the A-10 Tournament, but it should be a good one.

Wide-open conferences are going to make for wide-open tournaments. That includes the Atlantic 10. You can guarantee that it’s going to be an entertaining conference tournament.

Davidson, VCU, Dayton, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis, and Richmond could all win. There’s always the possibility of a big upset, but none of those teams winning would exactly be a huge upset.

St. Bonaventure has saved their best effort for last. Despite a 74-51 loss in their most recent attempt on Tuesday, the Bonnies have won seven of their last outings. They are up to 19-8 and 11-5 in the conference.

They weren’t close in Virginia against VCU, but overall lately, this hasn’t been a good Bonnies team. St. Bonaventure was on a seven-game winning streak before the loss.

I’m not going to give up on them because of one sloppy performance. On Tuesday, Richmond is coming off a 55-53 loss at home to Dayton.

The Spiders are an on and off team that hasn’t been able to find the best consistency this season. They need to dig deeper and find a hot run in them soon.

Richmond has three wins in their last six games. After a 68-66 win over Saint Louis at home, the Spiders failed to protect their home court versus Dayton. They enter at 19-11 and 10-7 in the A-10.

Richmond vs. St. Bonaventure Prediction:

Richmond is mediocre on both ends of the floor, as they struggle to score at a high clip consistently. The same could be said for St. Bonaventure, but they do have an extra push defensively to aid them on.

The Spiders are scoring 72.5 points per game on 44.7% shooting for 145th in the NCAA. That’s slightly above average, but it can be frustrating when to watch Richmond play. If you have money on them, that is.

They scored 57 points on February 18 against VCU and followed up with 84 versus George Washington four days later. Richmond was down to 53 points in a 55-53 loss two games later.

I suspect that the St. Bonaventure defense could be the difference in this matchup at home. Defensively, Richmond is allowing 69 points per game on 44.1% shooting. That’s good, just not good enough to make up for a vanilla offense.

Even with the loss, St. Bonaventure has allowed 61.4 points per game with a 42.3% FGA in their previous five attempts. At home this season, the Bonnies have allowed 66.3 points per game and a 42% FGA.

Richmond Spiders vs. St. Bonaventure Bonnies Betting Trends:

  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games as an underdog on the road
  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 0-5 ATS in their previous versus a team with a winning record
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games versus a team with a winning percentage better than 60%
  • 4-0 ATS in their previous four games after a loss
St. Bonaventure
  • 4-0-1 ATS in their previous five games at home
  • 4-1-1 ATS in their previous six games as a betting favorite
  • 5-2 ATS in their previous seven games versus a team with a winning record on the road
  • 7-3 ATS in their previous ten games on a Friday
  • UNDER is 9-2-1 in their previous 12 games

St. Bonaventure is scoring an average of 70.6 points per game on 45% shooting, though that goes up considerably at home. They turn into a run-of-the-mill offense to a very competent unit at home.

The Bonnies have netted 78.1 points per game on 48.1% shooting at home this season. In their last four games, St. Bonaventure has scored a minimum of 80 points in three of four games.

As a team, expect St. Bonaventure at home after their worst performance in a long time at VCU. They weren’t prepared and got out of focus in that one.

St. Bonaventure has lost just two games in Allegany, and likely won’t be stopped on Friday night. Before the A-10 Tournament begins, look for St. Bonaventure to bounce back with a win and cover in a tune-up game.
