Seton Hall Pirates at Creighton Blue Jays NCAAM Pick – March 7, 2020

We got right back to our winning ways last night when we backed the Davidson Wildcats at home, laying four points against the Rams of VCU. I have been fading the Rams on the road all season long and haven’t lost a bet. VCU was 0-7 against the top-100 in true road games entering play yesterday, and when I saw that I could fade them at a cheap price, I jumped all over it.

The fact that Davidson was 10-1 at home outright this season was just the cherry on top. While I am normally not a fan of laying more than a full possessions worth of points, I felt that the Rams had given up on the year and that Davidson would coast to the victory, and likely win by double-digits.

And what happened? The Wildcats used a big run to start the second half to open a lead that grew to as many as eighteen points, and Davidson coasted to a double-digit victory. Sometimes, sports betting is just too easy.

The only thing that makes me a little bit sad about his game, is that this is the final time I will get to fade VCU on the road this year! For today’s daily betting pick, we will head to the Big East, where the Creighton Blue Jays host the Seton Hall Pirates.

Today’s Game

  • Seton Hall Pirates (21-8) at Creighton Blue Jays (23-7)
  • CHI Health Center, Omaha
  • 11:30 AM PST
  • TV: FOX

The Big East title is on the line today as the Creighton Blue Jays host the Seton Hall Pirates. The Blue Jays are just one game back of Seton Hall for first place, and if they win today at home, they will share the regular-season title with the Pirates. The Blue Jays have caught fire in the second half of league play as they have won ten out of their last twelve games. On the season, Creighton is 16-1 at home.

For Seton Hall, the Pirates are hoping to win today and lock up the outright Big East title. The Pirates had a shot at locking it up in their last game, a home loss to Villanova, but can still be the outright league champions if they take care of business today on the road. The Pirates have hit a bit of a rough patch recently as they have gone just 5-4 in their last nine games after winning sixteen of their first twenty.

  • Seton Hall +3.5 (-110)
  • Creighton -3.5 (-110)
Money line:

  • Seton Hall +153
  • Creighton -173
Total Points:

  • Over 151.5 (-115)
  • Under 151.5 (-105)

Seton Hall Pirates

The grind of the Big East conference season is finally catching up with Seton Hall. The Pirates started out 8-0 in league play, and it looked like they just might run away with the conference championship. But since then, Seton Hall has surprisingly lost four games, three of them coming on their home floor. And while all four of those losses came to strong teams that are locks to be dancing in March, you always want to be playing your best basketball late in the season, and that doesn’t seem to be the case right now for Seton Hall.

That being said, the full body of work on the year for Seton Hall is still very impressive. The Pirates have top-100 wins over Marquette, St. John’s, Butler, Villanova, Georgetown, DePaul, Butler, Xavier, Maryland, Iowa State, and Saint Louis. Joe Lunardi currently has the Pirates as a two seed, and a one seed is not out of the question if the Pirates can win the regular-season Big East title today and follow it up with the Big East tournament championship next week.

Creighton Blue Jays

I mentioned above that you always want to be playing your best basketball at the end of the season, and that is certainly the case for this Creighton team right now. The Blue Jays had a strong non-conference as they picked up signature wins over Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Arizona State. But when league play started, the Blue Jays struggled, losing three of their first five league games.

But that is behind them now as they have won ten out of twelve, including huge wins over Seton Hall, Villanova, Butler, and Providence. And when you look at how the Blue Jays have played at home, they have been truly special this season. The Blue Jays are 16-1 at home, with the lone loss coming in early January to Villanova, a loss they later avenged on the road.

And it’s not just that they are winning at home, it is how they are winning at home. They beat Georgetown by fifteen, Butler by twenty-two, DePaul by twenty-nine, St. John’s by twelve, Xavier by eleven, and Marquette by eighteen. Of their seven home wins in league play, all of them came by double-digits, except the win over Providence, which came by four points back in January.

Who Do I Like?

All signs point to Creighton winning this game. They have caught Seton Hall stumbling just a bit, and they are on fire, especially at home. For those of you that ready my daily picks regularly, you know that I am never a big fan of laying more than a full possession’s worth of points, but similar to last nights bet on Davidson, I just don’t think this game is going to be all that competitive.

When you look at everything the Blue Jays have on the line in this one, they are going to give maximum effort. Not only are they playing at home, a place where they rarely ever lose. They are also playing for the Big East regular-season title. And oh yeah, did I mention it is senior day in Omaha? This Creighton team is going to be playing hard.

The Bet

You hate to ever expect a team as talented as Seton Hall to get blown out, but that just might happen today. While the majority of the Pirates losses this year have been close games, I think this one ends up getting away from them late. I can see Creighton getting an early lead and really pouring it on in the second half.

So, while I don’t love laying wood, that is just what I am going to do in this one. Give me the Creighton Blue Jays, laying -3.5-points today at home, as they look to take home a share of the Big East regular-season title!

The Bet: Creighton Blue Jays -3.5

My Pick
Creighton Blue Jays -3.5
