The 13-7 Red Storm head to famed Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to take on the 6-10 Bulldogs Tuesday night. The Johnnies have won six in a row, most recently winning at Providence 92-81 on Saturday. Butler won 68-58 at home against DePaul on Saturday to break a three-game losing streak. These two met on Jan. 12 when St. Johns prevailed, 69-57. The Red Storm are led by guard Julian Champagnie who and his team-high scoring average of 19.7 points per game. Champagnie led all scorers in the previous matchup with 18.
The Bulldogs are led by guard Jair Bolden, who averages 12 points per game. Butler shot 43 percent as opposed to St Johns who shot 44 percent in the first matchup. Butler outrebounded St. John’s 36-27 back on Jan. 12. Despite the rebounding advantage and virtually the same success shooting the basketball, St. John’s won that game by 12 points.
St John’s is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games and is finally clicking on all cylinders. The Red Storm has eclipsed 70 points in their past seven games, while the Bulldogs, meanwhile, have not eclipsed 70 points in their last five games. Butler simply cannot score enough points to defeat St. John’s. There is no reason to overthink this game.
