The St. John’s Red Storm and Marquette Golden Eagles are on the floor in Milwaukee at Marquette University tonight.
St. John’s and Marquette wrap up their regular seasons, as we turn out attention to conference tournament season now. March Madness is just getting underway, with the NCAA Selection Show next Sunday.
Conference tournaments will conclude next Sunday prior to the Selection Show. St. John’s and Marquette hope to put together upsets in the Big East Tournament this year.

It’s a competitive conference, though, and anyone winning this won’t be seen as much of an upset. There are nine teams with an overall record better than .500. From Providence to Xavier, we could have a winner in the Big East.
Marquette has proven that they are dangerous when they’re playing at their best. The Golden Eagles might have the best chance of going on a deep run from the mid-tier teams.
If the Golden Eagles get hot at the right time, all bets are off. They just aren’t hot at the moment, though. Marquette is going into tonight at 18-11 with a record of 10-8 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles are losers in four of their previous six games, with now a good time to get things in order. They’re on the heels of a 91-80 loss at Depaul on Wednesday.
Marquette was a covering machine at one point, but they haven’t covered the spread in eight games. Back home, where Marquette is at their best, this matchups presents a good opportunity to get on track, though.
St. John’s is 16-13 and 8-10 in the conference. They are an inconsistent team that can’t get out of their own way.
In their last attempt, the St. John’s had a complete effort with an 81-66 win over Xavier. It was their first win since February 18 to prevent a three-game losing streak.

St. John’s vs. Marquette Prediction:
St. John’s has some difficult offenses to deal with in the Big East Tournament. Their biggest roadblock to having success is a defense that can’t stop most teams in the NCAA.
The Red Storm has allowed 74.1 points per game for 304th in the country. They are getting railed on the road, with an average of 79 points against per game.
Opponents are shooting a healthy 46.6% versus the Golden Eagles. Overall, in their last five games, the Red Storm are allowing 75.2 points per game and a 44.4% FGA.
Expect Marquette to find their offensive mode in this one. They should find openings to shoot freely at home tonight. This is the perfect opportunity to get their team back on track.

Marquette needs a wake-up game, which could be against the St. John’s defense. Marquette has scored at home this season.
The Golden Eagles are scoring at more than 75 points per game on 45.7% shooting. The most important aspect of this one will be their defense, though.
I have confidence in Marquette being able to push back more effectively with their defensive than St. John’s. The Golden Eagles have conceded 67.7 points per game, with a very impressive 38.6% FGA.
The time to get hot is now for Marquette. They have to treat this as a conference tournament game to get their confidence back. Look for Marquette to win and cover by 8-10 points at home Saturday night.
