The Citadel Bulldogs vs. UNC Greensboro Spartans Pick – NCAAM January 18, 2021

If you are looking for an elite matchup on Monday, you are not going to find it in North Carolina at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The university is part of the University of North Carolina school system, but is its own stand-alone institution. If you are actually looking for an elite matchup, you can head to the TheSportsGeek college basketball page and locate the preview for the Kansas Jayhawks and Baylor Bears.

That’s going to be the most watched and bet on game today on Martin Luther King Day. If you haven’t had a chance to watch Baylor play this season, then they are certainly a ball club worth checking out. They are quite the talented squad, and could be the only team to give Gonzaga a run for their money. Are they nine points better than Kansas, though? We will have to find out on Monday night in Waco.

We will also find out on Monday night what’s going to happen between The Citadel Bulldogs and the UNC Greensboro Spartans. Not many people are going to care to find out what happens, but if you have this game on a sports betting ticket, then The Citadel and UNC Greensboro is a pretty big matchup. I’m going to lay down a unit in this one, so I will be watching The Citadel and UNC Greensboro closely tonight.

The Citadel have been having a solid season, as they enter the new week with a record of 8-2. The Bulldogs are coming off a 110-103 loss against VMI on Saturday. It was only their second loss of the season, as their porous defense caught up to them in that contest. They’ve been living on the edge in some high-scoring games this season, but VMI said enough is enough and the Bulldogs paid for their sloppy defensive effort. Only their second loss, but two in a row now, which has to be concerning.

UNC Greensboro can certainly make it three losses in a row for The Citadel on Monday night. Despite a record of 8-5, and three more losses than The Citadel, they’ve played a tougher schedule and obviously more games than the Bulldogs. UNC Greensboro are rightfully the favorites in this contest at home, though is 13 points a bit too much? Head below for our free The Citadel vs. UNC Greensboro pick on January 18, 2021.

The Citadel Bulldogs vs. UNC Greensboro Spartans NCAA Betting Odds:

  • The Citadel +13 (-105)
  • UNC Greensboro -13 (-115)

  • The Citadel OFF
  • UNC Greensboro OFF

  • Over 162 (-110)
  • Under 162 (-110)

The Citadel vs. UNC Greensboro Prediction:

The Citadel need to learn to play defense or their record of 8-2 is going to quickly evaporate. They haven’t played the toughest of schedules, and the defense is still getting ravished against average offenses.

The Citadel are coming off a game in which they allowed VMI to walk all over them for 110 points. Prior to that loss against VMI, The Citadel were outmatched defensively against Furman in a 94-88 loss. That was the fifth game that The Citadel has conceded at least 80 points this season.

Take away games against cream puffs Carver Bible College, Toccoa Falls, and Columbia International, and their defensive numbers look a lot worse. As it is, The Citadel have allowed 76.2 points per game thanks to those matchups, or it would easily be above 80 points a game defensively.

Fortunately, the offense has been able to make up for the anemic defense in most cases. The Citadel have been hot offensively, with 93.3 points scored a game for second in the NCAA. Their three-point shooting has been phenomenal in the 2020-21 campaign.

The Bulldogs are connecting from deep at a clip of 43.1%. While The Citadel are likely going to score in this game, expect them to give it all back defensively. UNC Greensboro has been in good form on offense recently, with 87 and 82 points against Samford.

It’s the fourth outing in their last six games that UNC Greensboro has scored at least 80 points a game. If they can score easily against Wofford, the Spartans should be able to do the same versus The Citadel tonight. I’m grabbing a piece of the OVER in this Southern Conference.
