The Vanderbilt Commodores and Georgia Bulldogs have a scheduled matchup in Athens on Saturday evening at Stegeman Coliseum. This isn’t the most highly anticipated game of the day, and there are a lot of options for your betting and viewing pleasure on Super Bowl Eve. However, Vanderbilt and Georgia should provide an entertaining SEC contest in Athens.
Georgia is playing for their NCAA Tournament dreams at the moment. They have to treat every game from here on out as a big game. At 11-6 on the season going into Saturday, Georgia could be a bubble team in March. They were on the verge of going 2-7 in the conference, but fought hard to dispatch Ole Miss, 71-61, on January 30. That was a must-win at home for Georgia.
Then the Bulldogs turned that win into back-to-back wins, as they went on the road to beat the Auburn Tigers, 91-86, on Tuesday in an impressive showing. At least offensively, where the Bulldogs had six different scorers get into double digits. It was certainly a team effort for Georgia on the offensive side of the floor. They have one of the better offenses in the conference, though theri defense has continually let them down.
If Georgia doesn’t play a flawless offensive game against Auburn then they’re not winning. They were smoked by a score of 95-77 against Auburn on January 13. That was a case of the offense being good, but not flawless, and when the Bulldogs’ offense isn’t connecting at an elite percentage, they’re not winning games. Hence, their record of 11-6, which would look a lot better with some effort defensively. There would be no need for a bubble.
Vanderbilt caught fire against South Carolina from the field on January 30. This ended a lengthy six-game losing streak for the Commodores. They tipped over 90 points on the board for a 93-81 win as 4.5-point underdogs at home. Vanderbilt owns a record of 5-8 and off the grid for the NCAA Tournament. A six-game losing streak will do that to a team. Head below for our free Vanderbilt vs. Georgia pick on February 6, 2021.
Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Georgia Bulldogs NCAA Betting Odds:
Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Prediction:
Georgia has been one of the most dangerous offenses in the SEC. When they’re in a groove, Georgia can be incredibly tough to throw off offensively. Sahvir Wheeler leads Georgia with 13.5 points per game. He and the other guard, K.D. Johnson, are the glue of the Bulldogs’ offense. Johnson is scoring 13.1 points per game.
While they are both talented guards, this is a well-rounded offense for Georgia. There are five Bulldogs in double digits on their roster. The good thing for Georgia is that they don’t rely on one individual player. If somebody has an off day, there are others that the Bulldogs can certainly lean on.
The Bulldogs are 54th in the NCAA with 77.9 points per game. They were on fire against Auburn with 91 points in their most recent outing. While there are definitely better offenses than Georgia, they should be able to exploit this paper thin Vanderbilt defense. The Commodores don’t play much defense. If they did play any sense of defense, Vanderbilt wouldn’t have gone on a six-game skid.
In their previous six games overall, they haven’t allowed fewer than 77 points in a game. Despite their recent win, South Carolina was still able to score 81 points. In their previous five outings, they’ve conceded an average of 83.2 points per game. On the road, Vanderbilt has given up 80.3 points per game. It’s hard not seeing the Georgia offense having a big game on Saturday. Getting over 80 points shouldn’t be much of a problem for the Bulldogs.
That said, the 284th best defense in the NCAA does cause a moment to pause on laying the points. Scotty Pippen Jr. is the catalyst of the Commodores. He is scoring 21.7 points and 5.5 assists per game. Pippen Jr. and Dylan Disu should be able to have their way against the Bulldogs’ defense. They’ve scored at least 70 points, with an average of 75.4 points per game in their last five outings. I like a 82-77 or 84-78 final score for this game to go OVER the total.
