The 6-13 Demon Deacons travel to Pittsburgh to take on the 9-10 Panthers on Tuesday night for a battle between two cellar dwellers in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Wake Forest has lost five in a row, most recently in blowout fashion to Virginia Tech on Saturday, 84-46. Pittsburgh, also losers of five straight, lost at North Carolina State on Sunday, 65-62. The line for this game opened with Pittsburgh as 8.5-point favorites but has since been bet all the way down to 4.5.
These two teams met back on Jan. 23, when Wake Forest picked up a 76-75 win on its home floor. The Demon Deacons’ leading scorer is guard Davien Williamson, averaging 12.2 points per game. Williamson was held to nine points in the first matchup, although he was able to record eight assists.
The Panthers are led by ACC Player of the Year candidate Justin Champagnie, who leads the team with averages of 18.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. Champagnie had 17 points and eight rebounds in the previous matchup and proved to be a problem for the Wake Forest defense.
Pittsburgh is playing much more poorly than they were when these teams first met, losing eight of its last 10 games. Wake Forest was able to exploit the Panthers’ poor perimeter defense in the first game, knocking down 15 three-point shots. The Demon Deacons will be ready to go for this game, seeing as it might be their last chance for a win this season.
