Game of the Week of Matcheweek 7 will take place at Stamford Bridge, where 3rd placed Chelsea will host league leaders Liverpool in a duel of undefeated clubs. This match might be a turning point in the English Premier League title race, with just 2 points separating the two teams at the moment.
Chelsea are a rejuvenated side under Maurizio Sarri this season. After an abysmal season under Antonio Conte, Chelsea board has decided to take their club in another direction and signed Maurizio Sarri from Napoli to be the new manager. Since then, Chelsea have looked like a legitimate title contender this year and are undefeated in the EPL this season. The only blemish on their record is a 0-0 draw at West Ham United.
Liverpool are the league leaders and the only side in the EPL with a perfect record. They have won all of their opening 6 games and are currently 2 points ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City who share the second place. Liverpool’s revival under Jurgen Klopp is finally hitting its full gear, as they already signaled their elite form last season by reaching the UEFA Champions League Final. A lot has been made of Liverpool’s title drought (27 years and counting), so the pressure is on the team and Jurgen Klopp to deliver the title this season.
I have prepared a short breakdown of the match and some betting predictions, so feel free to read on.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Pick
Chelsea have been stellar this season and if it wasn’t for a poor performance in a 0-0 draw against West Ham United, they would still have a perfect record and a share of the lead in the EPL along with Liverpool.
Chelsea have been solid defensively allowing only 4 goals in their first 6 matches, good enough for a 3rd place in the EPL, behind Liverpool and Manchester City. Offensively, the Blues were incredibly efficient with 14 goals in 6 matches. The offensive trio of Eden Hazard, Willian and Alvaro Morata have dominated the opponents, while N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho hold the midfield together and control the tempo of the game. Chelsea might miss Rudiger (thigh injury) and Pedro (shoulder injury) as both face fitness tests to be ready on Saturday.
Liverpool have been perfect this season with 6 wins in as many matches. They own the best defense in the English Premier League, allowing only 2 goals in 6 matches. Offensively, they have been a powerhouse as well, scoring 14 goals in the same timeframe. Only Manchester City have the better goal difference in the EPL this season. The offensive line of Mohamed Sallah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino has been an unstoppable force in the European soccer.
Liverpool were not really tested this season but the quality of opponents they have faced has also been inferior. Outside of Tottenham Hotspurs, Liverpool are yet to face a Big 6 clubs this season in EPL. Still, Jurgen Klopp’s side seems to be clicking this season and their defensive woes from previous seasons seem to be a thing of the past. Liverpool seems to be in perfect health, outside of Virgil Van Dijk who is facing a fitness test with a chest injury.
The rivalry between Chelsea and Liverpool has been pretty even in the recent years, with Chelsea winning 3, Liverpool 2 and 5 matches out of the last 10 ending in a draw. Overall, since the inception of the Premier League, Chelsea have won 20 games, Liverpool have won 15 and 14 games have ended up in a draw. It is important to note that Liverpool haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since 2012.
I find it tough to pick a winner in this one. On one hand, Chelsea have the history on their side at Stamford Bridge, where Liverpool have struggled in the recent years. Liverpool, on the other hand, are a completely different team the last 2 years under Jurgen Klopp and they are currently in fantastic form.
I believe that Liverpool haven’t really been challenged this season and Chelsea have the right roster to cause them all kinds of problems. The midfield trio of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are the most complete unit that Liverpool has faced this season and Eden Hazard and Willian are always a threat on the counter-attack. I think that Chelsea will be able to slow down Liverpool’s trio of Salah, Firmino and Mane and win this one at home.
