2022 LCS Spring Split Betting | GGS vs. C9 Predictions & Match Analysis

GGS vs. C9 is actually far more interesting than it might seem at first glance; predictions will, naturally, lean towards the boys in black and blue, but this could very well end up being a lot more competitive than most folks expect.

The Golden Guardians, while undoubtedly limited when it comes to potential and talent, are playing some truly impressive League of Legends; they won’t be challenging for a spot atop the LCS standings, but they’re nonetheless a very capable playoffs contender and a most confident one at that.

They’ve won three of their last four games with their sole loss coming at the hands of a rejuvenated Evil Geniuses. That’s pretty darn impressive for a team most folks thought would be a bottom-dweller incapable of putting up a fight. Wins over Dignitas QNTMPAY, Team Liquid, and Immortals tell us all we need to know when it comes to their power and overall potential.

Right now, they’re tied in third place with 100 Thieves and FlyQuest which, again, is a very impressive result given everyone’s pre-season expectations. Perhaps most importantly, their wins were by no means as fluky as those of FlyQuest’s.

This is not just some streak they’re on or a short-lived surge after which they’ll regress beyond measure. Instead, it is an indication that they really can tango with the best teams in North America and even win out from time to time.

There are, however, just six playoff spots and four of them are pretty much “reserved” for Team Liquid, Cloud9, Evil Geniuses, and 100 Thieves. They have the best players and the highest skill ceiling, so we simply have to give them our full benefit of the doubt.

Everyone else will, therefore, compete for those last two spots and, frankly, we haven’t the foggiest idea as to who’ll come out on top. They’re all still far too inconsistent for us to single anyone out.

GGS do, in all fairness, look like a prime candidate, and if they can find a way to maintain their current level of play they will surely be able to make the cut. It’s not going to be easy, but they’re obviously well equipped to tackle such a challenge.

Right now, however, they have Cloud9 to worry about.

Cloud9 — Where Did That Come From?

When this version of Cloud9 first stepped foot on stage, we were impressed with their creativity and willingness to think outside the box. Then, after parting ways with Nick “LS” De Cesare, they looked about as good as TSM FTX — which is to say they looked abysmal.

We got worried for a moment and, well, with very good reason.

But lo and behold, they’ve not only corrected course, but have come back with a vengeance. The things they did last week left no one indifferent. It was the absolute best and most dominant Cloud9 we’ve seen yet and boy were their games a sight to behold!

They went through Dignitas, 100 Thieves, and FlyQuest as if it were the easiest thing in the world; they made them look like a bunch of scrubs — like players who had no business competing in the same league.

It’s been one shellacking after another; the fashion in which it all went down was the most impressive thing. They’ve generated an insane amount of hype and are currently, by the looks of it, a Top 2 team in the LCS, rivaled only by the equally impressive (and to their opponents equally frightening) Team Liquid.

The thing with Team Liquid, however, is that you can at least somewhat predict what they’ll do and play. With Cloud9 it’s all up in the air. They obviously have a proclivity for scaling team comps (and certain champions) but they’ve also showcased immense flexibility along with the willingness to experiment and “gamble.”

Beating such a team not only requires a ton of talent and immaculate execution but also a similar kind of flexibility — one that would counter and rival theirs.

And while GGS have, in all fairness, been immensely creative, we just can’t envision a world in which they trade blows with such a motivated Cloud9 and actually live to tell the tale.

They’re weaker across the board, and if the boys in black and blue don’t implode for whatever reason (unlikely, but not impossible), we just can’t imagine GGS getting away with the win. They will, however, put up an immense fight and could, by all means, push Cloud9 to their very limits.

It sounds crazy, we know, but one shouldn’t make the mistake of underestimating GGS after their win over Team Liquid — it was a stellar performance and an indication that they can, at times, pull off the “seemingly impossible.”

Could it happen against Cloud9? In theory, yes, but we don’t think they’ll make the same mistakes as TL. It’s really that simple.

2022 LCS Spring Split Betting | GGS vs. C9 Predictions — Reasons to Watch

There’s no reason not to: this’ll be a spectacular clash between two highly aggressive, bravado-fuelled teams — what’s not to like? The Golden Guardians might not be a top-tier giant in the making but they sure can pack a punch, and their drafts are also mighty entertaining as well.

Last but certainly not least: they can also pop off like crazy. Case in point:

They’ve been great both individually as well as a five-man unit, so it’s not like they’re not a threat to Cloud9 — they very much are.

And even if you’re not particularly partial to GGS you should tune in for Cloud9 — they’re currently on a tear and have shown no signs of slowing down. They’re also one of the most capable and entertaining teams in North America and that makes their games an absolute must watch, regardless if you’re sporting a Cloud9 jersey or not!
