2022 LEC Spring Split Playoffs Betting | Team Vitality vs. EXCEL Predictions

Vitality vs. EXCEL is where things get a lot more interesting — this, without a doubt, is the most peculiar clash of the 2022 LEC Spring Split playoffs, and we mean that in a good way.

On the one side, we have one of the most stacked line-ups in LEC history. On the other, an organization that has just made playoffs for the very first time. At its core, this has all the hallmarks of a one-sided beatdown, a shellacking so bad you’d probably turn the stream off after a mere ten minutes. The kind of mismatch that would make one shudder.

And yet it is anything but.

The reason as to why is quite simple: that “stacked line-up” we just mentioned is nowhere near as competent and dangerous as we thought it’d be, whereas the team they’re about to face has exceeded even the most outlandish of expectations. The gap between them, therefore, is neither big nor insurmountable, and it may well have been narrowed.

Exciting stuff, to say the least! The LEC has always been a top-heavy region. We always knew who’d come out on top, which is why it’s so fun and refreshing to deal with a match-up that could really go either way.

Now, we still think Vitality will come out on top, but it’s probably going to be a lot closer than the odds would lead you to believe. And, well, EXCEL really do have a fighting chance. It’s more a sliver of hope rather than anything else but it does exist.

Vitality — A Struggling Giant… But a Giant Nonetheless

We’re still trying to wrap our heads around Team Vitality and their seemingly endless struggles. Calling them volatile and streaky wouldn’t even begin to cut it.

We’ve seen eighteen of their games and still we’re not quite sure what to make of them. And that number is by no means a negligible sample size, mind you. It should be more than enough for us to conjure up some kind of assessment and evaluation, no matter how superficial or incomplete it might be in nature.

Calling them good wouldn’t feel right as that wouldn’t be fair towards teams like Rogue, Fnatic, and G2. But we can’t label them as gatekeepers either for as long as teams like SK and BDS exist. And, well, bottom-dwellers they certainly are not.

So what are they, really? A struggling giant? A team of immense strength and potential that will, at some point, mount an offensive and leave a mark? Or just another obscenely expensive experiment, one that has not and will not yield anything of note?

We’re not quite sure where to put them or how to best describe them, but one thing’s for certain: Vitality did not get their money’s worth. And, well, they probably never will. This is yet another reminder that mindlessly spending thousands upon thousands (if not millions) of dollars/euros on a roster isn’t a recipe for success.

Creating a well functioning team is a layered challenge, one that cannot be solved or tackled with a blank cheque.

EXCEL — Competitive At Last

We didn’t think we’d ever see the day. After three long years and six splits defined by absolute mediocrity, EXCEL Esports have finally been able to make playoffs. It feels like a dream, but it’s actually happening, and we couldn’t be happier for them — they’ve earned it fair and square.

Now, though, comes a different kind of test, one they’ve yet to experience. Playing through a Best of 5 is quite frankly the most taxing experience a team can go through. Granted, this particular EXCEL line-up does have a few seasoned veterans under its banner, so it’s not like they’re totally oblivious to the road ahead.

Finn “Finn” Wiestål, Erlend Våtevik “Nukeduck” Holm, and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle have weathered many proverbial storms, and much of the same can be said for Patrik “Patrik” Jírů as well. They’re all grizzled and experienced, and Vitality would be wise not to underestimate them, lest they risk getting upset.

With all of that being said, we rightfully expect Luka “Perkz” Perković and his staggeringly capable teammates to kick things into overdrive once they step foot and stage and start competing in a Best of 5. They should, by all means, shine bright in such a format.

They’ll still make mistakes (lots of them, no doubt), but they won’t be as egregious nor will they be as costly — it’s a five-game series, after all, and they can always go back to the drawing board and “whip out” something new if “plan A” doesn’t work out for whatever reason.

2022 LEC Playoffs Betting | Team Vitality vs. EXCEL Predictions — Reasons to Watch

There’s quite a lot of uncertainty in the air, which makes this particular Best of 5 a lot more interesting than one would ever expect. The sheer fact that EXCEL looked as good as they did and that Vitality barely made the cut adds an extra layer of intrigue and uncertainty.

Still, betting against Perkz in a Best of 5 never makes sense, no matter the meta or whom he’s up against. This is his wheelhouse, a five-game series in which he has room to maneuver and style over his opponents. Now, he might not be as good as he was back when he crushed Royal Never Give Up, but he’s still a force to be reckoned with and one of the best and most seasoned players the LEC has to offer.

He has amazing teammates, too, even though they haven’t always been able to deliver. Still, they’ve had three weeks to work on their most egregious flaws and if they’ve made good use of that time they’ll surely enter the playoffs with renewed vigor, swinging for the fences with some very bad intentions.

EXCEL can and will put up a fight, but they’re weaker across the board and unless Vitality drop the ball and implode beyond measure (which is by no means impossible), we just can’t envision a world in which XL get out on top.

At best they could take Vitality to five games but that’s the most we’re willing to give them. Vitality simply have more tools to work with, more potential win conditions, broader champion pools, and a more diverse set of strategies they can employ. EXCEL are no slouch, mind you, but they cannot compare to Vitality and the many strengths and virtues which they’ll bring to the table.

If this were a Best of 1 we’d be more inclined to believe in their chances. A Best of 5, however, should prove to be too big of a challenge for the boys in white and blue. Be that as it may, they will not go down without a fight, and they’re well equipped to give Vitality a run for their money so definitely make sure to tune in!
