The long and windy road to the Super Bowl begins for the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday as they face up against their NFC West division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. The line has the 49ers at -3.5 for one reason, its week one. Teams will be feeling each other out which means it will be an easy week to exploit the top play.
The Seahawks defense allowed the third most passing yards last year which was an improvement to their ’08 season where the ranked last- pathetic. This will be an area that TE Vernon Davis will exploit as he has emerged as the leagues most dynamic pass catchers, whereas Seattle have shown their inability to cover TE’s altogether. Also, with an aging QB and a patched up O-line, the Seahawks will have a tough time keeping Matt Hasselbeck on his own two feet against the 49ers D-line who had a combining 44 sacks last year which tied for third most in the league last year.
The 49ers go into this match thinking two words: Frank Gore. There has been three 200 yard rushing games in 49ers history, two of them coming from non other than Frank “the tank” Gore, coincidentally bother against the Seahawks. The Seahawks addressed this problem at draft and picked up their man of the future- Russell Okung at left tackle. However, he will be out for this match up with an ankle injury so watch that left side to be wide open for Gore to exploit.
