In one of the biggest games of the week, the Alabama Crimson Tide meet the Texas A&M Aggies for an ultra-important matchup in College Station. This isn’t a game that Alabama needs to win to stay undefeated, it’s in fact a game the Aggies need to remain with a donut in the L column. Texas A&M has a 5-0 record and will look to advance to 6-0 against Alabama. The Aggies have beaten Bama before in recent memory, albeit three years ago in the Johnny Football era. It was a ground breaking win for Texas A&M, but that was three years ago and this is today. Manziel is sitting on a bench in the NFL, and the Texas A&M offense is led by Kyle Allen now, who doesn’t have Manziel fame at this point in his career but he is talented nevertheless. If you want to be compared to him, go and win a football game against Alabama. They have the benefit of playing at home this afternoon; it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities that Texas A&M can spring an upset. What is playing against them here though is the fact that Alabama already lost a game. 2 losses for the Crimson Tide in mid-October seems hard to fathom. I just think there is another level of motivation for Alabama already with a loss to their credit.
This isn’t as dominant of an Alabama team as we are used to seeing. They are beatable. In the past teams crumbled at the presence of having to play Alabama, but if there is a solid game plan implemented, then Bama can be beat. However, there is bound to be room for Alabama to move up in the rankings. If they win out the rest of the way and win the SEC Conference, I expect to see Alabama playing in the college football playoff. Nick Saban can’t have any more lapses, they already did with a loss against Ole Miss. Last season Bama embarrassed A&M for a final score of 59-0. So, this is a revenge game of sorts for the Aggies. I honestly don’t think that they need any motivation to get up for this game, revenge game or not. This matchup kicks off at 3:30 EST on Saturday, nationally televised on CBS.

Alabama vs. Texas A&M Pick:
I have to say that Kyle Allen is the best quarterback in the SEC. Auburn has a dumpster fire operation going on there, Georgia has a 5th year quarterback that plays like a freshman, and Jake Coker can be hit and miss. Coker is what he is, he isn’t bad, but let’s be honest he’s there to hand the ball off to Derrick Henry and let him do his thing. That is what Alabama is going to want to do in this game. The Aggies have a furious pass rush led by Myles Garrett, who has 7.5 sacks on the season already. As a team Texas A&M has sacked opposing quarterbacks 19 times. This is thanks to defensive coordinator John Chavis, who has completely turned this defense around from a year ago. Don’t expect Alabama to go and score 59 points on them like they did last season.
Allen has 13 touchdowns on the year with only 2 interceptions. He also has 136 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. He doesn’t have the scrambling ability of Manziel but he can pull it back and run. The Aggies may opt to utilize backup quarterback on some plays in this game as well, he is more of a threat to the run the ball so look out for that. Alabama has been known to struggle with up-tempo offenses. A&M didn’t take advantage of it last season, but Allen has had another year in the offense to get acquainted with it. I think Texas A&M is going to be able to score points in this game. They’ve had two weeks to prepare for this game as they are coming off a bye week. They looked at that Ole Miss tape and dissected it from top to the bottom. I think Bama will run the ball effectively in this game. They kept their offense a little conservative last week to hold back for this week against the Aggies. They allow a whopping 182.6 yards on the ground per game. This one won’t get as high scoring as 49-42 from two years ago, but the OVER is a good way to look in this matchup.
