Utah State was expecting a big year with a healthy Chuckie Keeton at quarterback. Finally a healthy year for Keeton? Nope, just a few weeks into the season Keeton dinged his knee up and back to the bench he went. Keeton has been plagued by injuries in the later part of his career. When healthy Keeton looked like an NFL prospect, but the injuries have taken a beating on him and he is damaged goods now. In three years at Utah State before the injuries piled on, Keeton passed for 55 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions, not to mention the damage he did with his legs. In 2014, not looking like the same player, Keeton went for 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions before having to sit out. This season he is at 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He may not get the chance to improve on that, as Utah State has been liking what Kent Myers has brought to the table at quarterback. One day you’re the savior, the next you’re out to the side of the road with the trash. Myers has led the Aggies to two straight victories in rather convincing fashion.
This will be Utah State’s second bigtime nationally televised game at home. The first against rival Utah, a game they hung in to make a competitive matchup. That is looking like a pretty good loss now, if you want to call it that, because if you haven’t heard Utah is a pretty damn good team. Good enough to blow Oregon out and rank near the top of the national rankings. Utah State kept it close, but all they could do is make it a 24-14 final. But like I said, that almost feels like a win in a way against Utah. They start back at 0 against a very good Boise State team tonight. It would be equally impressive if the Aggies beat Boise State, something they couldn’t do against Utah. The 5-1 Broncos need to stay focused on Utah State tonight, or they could fall victim to a Friday night upset.

Boise State vs. Utah State Pick:
This isn’t the BCS darlings of the Kellen Moore era at Boise State, but the Broncos are still very well a threat in college football. At 5-1 the Broncos can still get themselves in a good bowl game. Ideally, the opponent would be a big school. The Broncos have always wanted to prove themselves against the bigger conferences, and I’m sure they want another crack at one of them. The Broncos have a true freshman quarterback at the controls, who appears to be a guy that will be the man in Boise for years to come. Their original starter, Ryan Finley, got injured, an injury that will keep him out for a significant amount of time. And then he went and got arrested, apparently too much time on his hands. Brett Rypien has been the starter since and hasn’t looked back. This will be only his fourth start of his college career. Thus far he has thrown for 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception.
Utah State will be his biggest test yet. The Aggies are allowing just 195 yards per game through the air, which puts them near the top of college football in passing defense. Rypien’s previous opponents were Virginia, Hawaii, and Colorado State. We’re going to see what Rypien is made of in this game on the road against a good defense. The problem I have with Utah State is the offense. With an inexperienced Kent Myers at quarterback, the Aggies are going to play the option offense with him, with plenty of action running the ball. This is going to play right into Boise State. The Broncos allow just 60 yards per game on the ground, which is statistically a top 5 team in all of college football. Overall they surrender 12 points a game. Two inexperienced quarterbacks get the nod here against good defenses. The total is a little high or me, something I had handicapped at 44.5 or 45. Therefore, the UNDER looks great on Friday night.
PICK: UNDER 49.5 POINTS (-110)
