The Central Michigan Chippewas and Wyoming Cowboys meet in the Potato Bowl in Boise. This used to be the Humanitarian Bowl many years ago. I recall a couple of those games because I made good money off them. No one remembers Bowling Green and Idaho? Oh, I do. That was a good one in Freddie Barnes curtain call at Bowling Green.
He held the receiving record at the time, but his professional career never took off. In any event, the bowl has a different name now, but the game is still played in Boise, Idaho. It’s really a fitting name for a game in Idaho to honor the Idaho Potato. The game is played at the home of the Boise State Broncos, so if you don’t like the blue field, look away.
While there isn’t much of a storyline for a lot of bowl games. There is a small one here you can follow. Josh Allen will be on full display for scouts to watch, as he hopes to see his draft stock bounce up. Considering he played at Wyoming, not many people have had the chance to watch him play.
This will be the first time several have watched him play for the first time. Allen missed the last few games with a shoulder injury, but it’s been announced he will play in this game and then enter the NFL Draft. Statistically, his numbers are down from last season. He passed for 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions a year ago, and has 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions this year.
Nevertheless, it’s important to look at the complete picture. If he’s given some weapons around him, how much better would his numbers look? It’s safe to say if he was on a team like Oklahoma State with the weapons they have, he’d have accumulated good looking numbers. NFL scouts know to look past statistics and look at the entire product.
What do you think Carson Wentz could have done in one of those Big-12 offenses? Not that it means Josh Allen is going to go to an NFL team and look as polished as Wentz. I think he has potential, but he’s a bit raw and will need some work. His future will probably be determined by what team drafts him. He’ll look to finish up his college career with a win over Central Michigan in the Potato Bowl. Head below for our free Central Michigan vs. Wyoming pick.

Central Michigan vs. Wyoming Pick:
Central Michigan came on strong late, winning five straight games over their final five weeks of the regular season. Their last lost came against Toledo on October 14th. No shame in losing to a team like the Rockets. It was a bit of a letdown spot too, as they defeated a good Ohio team the week prior. Central Michigan has been flying with the rise of quarterback Shane Morris. Michigan fans know who Shane Morris is. He’s better known for being the quarterback who was left in a game by Brady Hoke when he was dizzy and couldn’t stand up straight. He was recruited as a 5-star quarterback, so there was some talent there that they saw in him.
Morris left to go to Central Michigan for his senior season. There was no way he was going to get playing time at Michigan, so he made the decision to go to a school he knew he’d get to play. Morris warmed up and finished with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also rushed for an additional 3 touchdowns on the ground. Across their five-game winning streak, the offense averaged 41.2 points per game. Note that they also won their rivalry game over Western Michigan.
The Cowboys want to ugly games up and win with their defense. Yeah, they have Josh Allen on offense, but he hasn’t played in a while, and their offense isn’t made to put up 40 points per game. They scored over 40 points twice this season, against New Mexico and Texas State. Texas State was one of the worst programs in the FBS this season. Their defense held up throughout the year, though, posting an average of 333 yards allowed per game, 21st in the nation. They also allowed just 17.8 points per game. Everybody is going to be watching to see Josh Allen, though. His counterpart, Shane Morris, has been undervalued all year long. He is a competitor and will not treat this like an exhibition. Central will compete and keep this a game. I’d take a look at the points for a small play.
