This third week’s game features two of the top teams in the NFL and a possible late season matchup. Both teams are 1-1 through this pre-season and boast tremendously talented offenses. Will that mean the over and big points for one of these squads? Check out below for more information including my picks on the total and spread.
What has changed for the New Orleans Saints? They’re not just a flashy offense with no substance anymore. With almost their entire mass of players still together and re-signing Darren Sharper this team is poised to make a run as #42 looks to continue to cement his legacy once again. Their defense will always be the number two skill for the Saints, but will continue to get more comfortable with defensive coordinator Greg Williams being at the helm for a second year. Nobody has repeated as NFC South division champions, but is only one step to the ultimate goal of a repeat Superbowl.
San Diego continues to rely on their stellar receiving corps. which is deep and they’ll need it. Keeping Sproles helps the running game, but at 31st last year with LaDanian Tomlinson it left something to be desired. Ryan Matthews was drafted for immediate help. Another star left in Cornerback Antonio Cromartie, though their secondary is still well above average with Safety Eric Weddle and the addition of Nate Vasher. This team’s outlook can be a division win, but I’m just not seeing the Superbowl this year.

Chargers vs Saints Preseason Prediction:
Game Total Prediction (Top Play) – This is will be my top play as these two offensive stalwarts are just aching to put up some big numbers as these QBs look to take the lion share of the time and though they have been accurate, they have just one touchdown pass between them this preseason. Not to mention that stars on defense Shawne Merriman and Darren Sharper respectively, won’t be available for game action. PREDICTION – OVER 42.5 POINTS
Spread Prediction – Though the better team is clearly the Saints, with the depth of having Superbowl winners as backups. I was inclined to take San Diego as they are 4-1 in the preseason versus New Orleans all-time. The teams that aren’t as good usually go for it a bit more in the exhibition season. But as I think about it, the defense for the Saints are poised to get some takeaways as they practice against Drew Brees everyday and the Chargers run game is still suspect. Plus losing to the Cowboys last week was not a good sign. PREDICTION – SAINTS -3
