Chiefs vs. Seahawks Pick – NFL Pre-Season August 25th

We hit another huge winner last night in the NFL with the Eagles -3.5 and are officially on quite the roll right now with these NFL selections! We’ll look for that continue into Week 3 and hopefully into the regular season. Week 3 is typically the best and most authentic week of the pre-season as it is when coaches will release the shackles and let the starters play for at least a half. It provides fans a solid and last look before the games get going for real.

And with that in mind, we are definitely looking forward to a really good match-up on Friday evening. Both the Chiefs and Seahawks have Super Bowl aspirations for 2017, and will look to tonight’s encounter as their final tune-up to be ready to hit the ground running. For the Chiefs, they kick off the season against the Patriots – surely an opportunity to set the tone and let Brady & co. know it won’t be a cakewalk in the AFC this year.

I enter tonight’s match-up with a 6-3 record to date with pre-season picks, focusing on playing time and organizational depth charts. That formula has worked well so far and we’ll look for it to continue into tonight’s match-up between the Chiefs and Seahawks. Read on below for a detailed game breakdown and another winning selection!

Chiefs vs. Seahawks Pick:

One aspect of Friday’s game that should be fascinating to watch early on is the Chiefs’ revamped offense against the Seattle first-team defense. As many know, the Seahawks’ defense is ferocious, widely regarded as the league’s top unit. However, Kansas City has looked great on offense in the pre-season and has yet to be held scoreless. Alex Smith generally takes a lot of heat, but he’s gotten the job done in the past – and looks solid by all accounts in 2017. Coach Andy Reid has already come out and said to expect starters for the first three quarters, though backup QB Patrick Mahomes may also get minutes with the first-teamers.

On the other side of the ball, Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll has stated that his starters will also play at least through the first half. This should provide football fans with a real solid game, though Seattle is dealing with some injuries at skill positions. At running back, they’ll be without Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise, putting their regular season availability into question. The void will need to be filled by Eddie Lacy on Friday evening, though don’t expect much running room against a stiff K.C. stop unit.

Expect Kansas City’s starters to view this as a real test and top challenge in their final warm-up before the regular season. Starting against the Pats is no easy feat – but having a solid showing against Seattle will certainly set their season off on the right foot. Kansas City is also getting a boost on the injury front, with stud safety Eric Berry returning to the fold. He’ll be effective in stopping the aerial attack on Friday night against Russell Wilson and co.

Where I think the Chiefs will really hold an advantage is late in this game and into the 4th quarter. I foresee a tight encounter, but ultimately the Chiefs’ depth at key positions and at quarterback should be able to take over. Patrick Mahomes is an exciting young rookie who has looked great so far in training camp. People are even talking about him as a starter if Smith ever needed replacing. Mahomes will get minutes with the starters which should provide a nice change-of-pace and boost to the Chiefs’ attack in the 3rd quarter. Late in the game, long-time third stringer Tyler Bray has proven to be solid and should continue getting the job done.

Look for a tight game between two very solid and competitive starting units. In a potential Super Bowl preview here in August, look for the depth of the Chiefs to win out as they seem more eager to prove themselves against the Seahawks.

PICK = Chiefs +3 (-115)
