While this year’s version of the Florida Gators might not have the kind of national prestige of the past few, they are certainly very good. And, their mettle will again be put to the test as they take on the Florida State Seminoles. Let’s not get too off path here: both team’s, for consecutive upon consecutive seasons, are headed to a bowl game. But, Florida (7-4) isn’t anywhere near whiffing the SEC Championship game while Florida State (8-3) is still finding its way under coach Jimbo Fisher. Regardless of records, this is always a rivalry game worth watching and this year is certainly no different.
It wasn’t quite all that it was cracked up to be for the Florida Gators. Quarterback John Brantley (1968 passing yards, 8 TDs, 8 INTs) hasn’t quite lived up to his billing in high school as the guy who would make Florida fans forget about Tim Tebow. He hasn’t been good. He hasn’t been bad. He’s just been ok. But, with the University of Florida’s football team, you need quarterbacks to be great. Tebow, Rex Grossman, Danny Wuerrfel come to mind. But, this Florida team has a lot to play for. They have won six in-a-row dating back to 2004 against their in-state rivals and coach Urban Meyer will surely want to continue that streak. If that is to happen, a lot will come down to defense. Both the Gators and Seminoles come into the game with top 25 scoring defenses.

For Florida State, a lot has gone right this year. The rushing game is ranked 33rd in the country and the Seminoles have lost both of their two conference games by a combined six points. They are certainly headed in the right direction and the defense has held up well under Fisher and co. But, can they break their jinx against the Gators? It’s another cycle of players that haven’t had the satisfaction of beating Florida and if it won’t happen this year—with a young Florida team on the other side— will it happen anytime soon?

Florida vs. Florida State Predictions for Week 13:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – Records and streaks are meant to be broken. With that, we’ll bet that Florida State breaks their hex against the Gators and finally pulls out a win. There is a touch more leadership for the Seminoles and the kind of passion that was put forth last weekend in a tough road victory at Maryland cannot overstated. The favorite is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 games. We like the Seminoles.
Game Total Prediction –It’s odd to see the defenses of both teams not ranked as high as usually when it comes to national, defensive statistics. But, that seems to be the case this year. The Seminoles, for example, have six players out in their back seven while Florida’s defense has had trouble with complacency. With that said, the offenses are just good enough to turn things up and get it going. Florida is 7-1 in the Under in their last 8 versus the ACC. Florida State is 7-1 in the Under in their last 8 games as a favorite. Like we said, records are made to be broken.
