Soldier Field is going to host what should be a fun game to watch as the Detroit Lions head to Chicago looking for a win. Both of these franchises are in dire need of a week 1 win. We all know about the struggles of the Detroit Lions, the horrible draft picks, the bad QB play, no offensive line, no defense, bad coaching, need I go on? I will suffice it and just say they were bad. The Lions these days are much improved though and have gotten better and looked a lot better through preseason games and I’m excited to see what this young unit can do. As for the Bears the preseason hasn’t been so kind. Cutler has been hit more times than a baseball during a homerun derby, receivers clearly aren’t on his page, and on defense Brian Urlacher got hurt yet again. Bears Coach Lovie Smith is on the hot seat so he better get it together and fast. Game starts 1:00 pm EST
The Lions have gone through tremendous growth at every position including upper management. The best thing the Lions did was identify their Franchise QB of the future in Matthew Stafford and anybody who thinks this kid can’t play is dead wrong. They have Calvin Johnson who is explosive as a WR and new draft pick Javid Best at RB who will give this team a scary core of offensive talent, not to mention and improved offensive line, and they get Brandon Pettigrew back from injury along with the free agent signing of Nate Burleson, this offense has the potential to be Dangerous, something I never thought I’d say about a Detroit offense. On defense the signing of new draft pick Ndamukong Suh along with the additions of Kyle Vanden Bosh and Corey Williams their font four should be a major upgrade from last year. I still have questions about their pass defense, however this team is a lot better than it has been in a long time and as long as Jim Schwartz can coach them up, they might actually be able to hang with some teams.
Da Bears are at an interesting crossroad, they can either exceed all expectations placed upon them or fail miserably. I love the addition of Mike Martz for this team and one has to believe that Chicago do two things on offense, pass a lot and score a lot. Jay Cutler was killed by the media and fans alike last season and I’m certain the last thing he wants to do is throw 26 more interceptions this season, however without the threat of a true number one receiver, like it or not it’s not out of the question. He will throw more than 27 touchdowns however that I can tell you. Cutler and the rest of the offense may be rusty early, but will pick it up as the season progresses and if he can get any help from his running backs this year, whether it is Matt Forte or Chester Taylor, Cutler will be better. On defense Urlacher should be healthy for the start of the season and big free agent Julius Peppers should be wrecking havoc and hopefully the pass rush can mask any deficiencies in pass coverage.

Lions vs Bears Spread, Line and Prediction Week 1:
Game Total Prediction (Top Play) – Not much defense to go around here. Both teams have secondary issues, the Bears will throw the ball a lot and the Lions will go to Calvin Johnson a lot. Not much running in this game, look forward to seeing a lot of passing offense, but not much touchdown as both teams have problems in the red zone. Take the under though, simply because these two teams can’t convert in the red zone.
Detroit Lions +6.5
@ Chicago Bears -6.5
Spread Prediction – This one is a pretty good matchup. Two offensive teams that should keep the game close, but there will be quite a few three and outs drives. This game will probably come down to who ultimately has the ball last. While Chicago may come out with the win, I’m not comfortable giving away 6.5 points. Believe it or not Detroit may not be that bad this year.
