The Louisiana State Tigers head to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks in a game that could have huge national implications for both teams. The Tigers, who are ranked #5 in the country, come into the game after a last-gasp victory last weekend against Mississippi by a score of 43-36. For Arkansas, the game serves as a chance to continue to assert themselves as both a major conference contender and a national power.
LSU is so close to being perfect. They are 10-1 with their only loss coming on the short end of a 24-17 decision to Auburn. Whether the Tigers win or lose against the Razorbacks it’s been an absolutely tremendous season. There were so many questions, mainly offensively, as the Tigers came into the season. But, wins against Alabama and Florida have made this seemingly normal group into a special one. Whether the Tigers can win yet another road game will largely depend on how the offense does. It’s not a secret that the offense, statistically, has been putrid throughout the season. The Tigers rank 109th in pass offense and 86th in total yardage. Quarterback Jordan Jefferson has been a large part of the offensive demise as he only has four touchdown passes against nine interceptions. If he continues to play at a similar level, then it will again be up to the LSU running game, defense and special teams to make up the difference.

It’s been an outstanding season for Arkansas thus far. The Razorbacks have one of their highest rankings in school history and have a chance to put a serious stamp on how serious they are becoming as a football school under coach Bobby Petrino. Petrino is still finding his feet after leaving the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons but the rise has been meteoric. The Hogs are 9-2 with losses to Auburn and Alabama and a big part of the success has been the play of quarterback Ryan Mallett, a Michigan transfer. Mallett has thrown for over 3200 yards and has 37 passing touchdowns to only nine interceptions. A big key will be whether the LSU defense can slow him down or whether they’ll become another victim. The Razorbacks are 3rd in passing and 7th in total offense. If they continue at the clip they are at, then LSU could be in for trouble.

LSU vs. Arkansas Prediction for Week 13:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – LSU has had an outstanding season. No one is debating that. But, they’ve had some luck along the way to get to where they are. Luck doesn’t last forever and we’re going to bet that Arkansas is just too good and should cover this spread against LSU. The Razorback defense is good enough to hinder an LSU offense that is, at times, pathetic. The Arkansas passing game coupled with a rowdy home crowd should be enough for the home side.
Top Play Prediction = Arkansas -3.5
Game Total Prediction –It’s tough to get to 54 points for an offense like LSU’s. It’s also hard to get there with the kind of swarming and pressure-filled defense the Tigers have. With the Under 7-3 in LSU’s last 10, it seems like that could be the way to go. The only concern is if Arkansas gets a lead and starts to pile it on while the LSU defense gambles to get back into the game. We’ll assume the Razorbacks will have success through the ground, and the air, and will do enough to win in a low-scoring, defensive battle.
Game Total Prediction: Under 54
