Notre Dame vs. LSU Music City Bowl Pick – December 30th

For a lot of teams this bowl season, they would much rather be playing in much more illustrious bowls. Just take a look at some of the games from yesterday. And for today, look no further than this matchup between LSU and Notre Dame. These are two schools that were recently playing in National Championships, this season their consolation prize for their respective records is playing in the Music City Bowl. Regardless of what bowl it is, these are two storied universities with a plenty of history. Moreover, the angle of Les Miles vs. Brian Kelly throws some intrigue into this game as well. I imagine that the bowl committee was pretty content scoring LSU and Notre Dame for this game. Playing a day before New Years Eve in the afternoon wasn’t what the schools were looking for, but hopefully this turns out to be a good game. LSU comes into today a game above Notre Dame with a record of 8-4, compared to Notre Dame’s regular season record of 7-5. I think Notre Dame’s loss to FSU several weeks back really put a dagger in their motivation and determination for the rest of the season. They fought hard, like a lot of teams have this season against FSU, but came up empty, 31-27. The Irish concluded the season by getting walloped, 49-14, against rival USC. LSU had an up and down season, showing up one week like a national contender, and then flopping the next. We’ll see what happens today, as LSU and Notre Dame meet in the Music City Bowl.

Yesterday was another quality day for bowl betting for me personally. Arkansas easily handled Texas by defeating them 31-7. The defense was stifling for the Razorbacks, holding the Longhorns to under 100 yards of total offense. That game panned out exactly as planned. If you took my advice on that one then congrats to you as well. If you have been following my advice all bowl season you would be making some pretty big profits. I am 5-1 this bowl season, but we’re just getting started. Hopefully we can add more money to the bankroll with another winning pick today. Read below to get the LSU/Notre Dame pick for free.

Notre Dame vs. LSU Pick:

The biggest storyline of this game will be who is starting at quarterback for Notre Dame. Usual starter Everett Golson, who led Notre Dame to the national championship game two years ago, will not be starting this afternoon against LSU. Instead head coach Brian Kelly has opted to go with Malik Zaire instead. Note that this will be the first start of Zaire’s career. Kelly is making the change after the Notre Dame offense has severely bogged down in the past few weeks. In particular, Kelly is frustrated with how careless Golson has been with the ball in his hands. It was turnover after turnover, and always at the worst times to hand the ball to the other team. Even more worrisome for Notre Dame this season has been the defense. The Irish got to the national championship behind a strong defensiveness team, but it is hard to find any kind of defense with this team. In their last seven games, Notre Dame has given up 41.5 points per game. In all of them they surrendered over 30 points. Couple that with a mistake prone offense, and we have ourselves a frustrated Irish roster.

LSU really hasn’t lost much of its identity from years past. They are still a tough hardnosed defense that is hard to move the ball on. LSU still has a defense that you would expect coming out of the SEC. Note that the last time LSU has allowed more than 20 points in a game was all the way back on October 11th against Florida where they gave up 27 points. Since then the Tigers have allowed an average of only 12.8 points a game. Now remember this will be a quarterback making his first career start here. He isn’t going to be getting some creampuff defense to feast off of. LSU should be flying around the ball, confusing Zaire. The LSU offense isn’t nothing to be excited about, but Notre Dame on defense hasn’t been playing good football at all. Most importantly, though, I find it hard to believe that Notre Dame is going to find points in this game. This game may play out similarly to how Arkansas/Texas did. The SEC flexes their muscles again today, as the LSU Tigers should be able to roll over Notre Dame.

PICK: LSU -7.5 (-110)
