One of the biggest games in the Big-12 this week features the 15th ranked Oklahoma St. Cowboys (5-1) and the 12th ranked TCU Horned Frogs (4-1) on Saturday afternoon (4:00pm ET) at Amon G. Carter stadium in Fort Worth, TX. OSU lost their opener to defending BCS National Champion Florida St. 37-31 in Arlington, but has reeled off 5 straight wins since then including a 27-20 win at Kansas last week. They also own Big-12 wins over Texas Tech (45-35 in week 5) and Iowa St. (37-20 in week 6) both at home. TCU lost a wild one last week at Baylor, 61-58 for their first loss of the season. They opened conference ply the week prior to that with a 37-33 upset win over Oklahoma at home.
The Cowboys rank 25th nationally in scoring offense with 37.2 points per game and 60th in total offense with 420.7 yards per game. They blew a 13 point lead last week and barely came back to beat 2-4 Kansas on a 99 yard kickoff return in the 4th quarter. Oklahoma St. vs. TCU Pick:
Oklahoma St. has not played the best of the Big-12 thus far, notching wins over 3 teams that have yet to earn a conference victory. Both teams have explosive players on offense and special teams, as each returned a kick for a touchdown last week. Oklahoma St., then ranked 21st in the nation, defeated CTU 24-10 in their meeting last season as they accumulated 415 yards of total offense and 320 yards passing. Oklahoma St. is 5-5-2 all-time at TCU and 13-9-2 in the series.
The Horned Frogs have been explosive on offense this season, as they showed last week. They have also shown a propensity to let their opponents into the end zone, allowing 94 points in their two Big-12 games to this point and 1,243 total yards in October. They have shut down their lower-level opponents, but have had trouble stopping the big boys. OSU had their way with TCU’s defense last season, but they also have not proved themselves capable of beating top competition this season. They were able to stand toe-to-toe with Florida St., which bodes well for their ability to score in this game. TCU has proven they can score on anyone this season, with their defense looking shaky the total looks like the best play here. Expect to see a lot of scoring and the number should land north of a relatively low total. Take the OVER here.
