Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi Sugar Bowl Pick – Jan 1st

In the last game on New Years, New Orleans takes center stage for the Sugar Bowl at the Super Dome. Oklahoma State, representing the BIG 12, and Ole Miss who are representing the SEC will clash to be named the 2016 Sugar Bowl Champions. Did you see Alabama throttle Michigan State yesterday? Yeah, tonight you’ll be able to get a glimpse of the only team to be able to beat Alabama. Ole Miss sent Alabama reeling earlier in the season with a big win over them. After that one, it all but felt like Alabama was going to need a miracle to happen to reach the playoff. It wasn’t much of a miracle, but Bama will be playing in the National Championship. Ole Miss will have the spotlight tonight in the Sugar Bowl. The Alabama defense was in fits trying to control Chad Kelly and Mississippi. It was just too much, as Ole Miss put up 43 points on Bama for the 43-37 win, shell-shocking the nation. I suppose the Crimson Tide get the last laugh, as they will be playing in the National Championship.

Ole Miss went on to lose three games the rest of the way, three games that Ole Miss could have, should have won. Florida, Memphis, and Arkansas all took the Rebels down. With all the respect given to the three above-mentioned teams, Ole Miss if they played like they did against Alabama would have blew those schools out. So what could have been a perfect season turned into 8-3. The Rebels concluded the season on a two game roll against LSU and Mississippi State. Two notable wins that go along nicely on the Rebels’ resume with the Alabama win. Winning the Sugar Bowl and beating Alabama in the same season would be a success in the eyes of many.

The storyline for Oklahoma State in this game is who will start at quarterback, Mason Rudolph or J.W. Walsh. Rudolph is the gunslinger, while Walsh brings more of a duel-threat to the equation. If Rudolph starts, I still expect to see Walsh in the game. Oklahoma State finished the season getting walloped by Baylor and Oklahoma. They will look to make up for it against Ole Miss. The Cowboys only two losses didn’t occur until the final two weeks, so it was a bit of a kick in the teeth for Oklahoma State who were just two weeks away from the college football playoff. Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi Pick:

I have noticed that a lot of games today are going to feature plenty of ground and pound action. If you’re into that kind of thing, you will love it. If you love passing and fast offenses, you found your match in Oklahoma State and Ole Miss. Chad Kelly is the signal caller for the Rebels, and will always be remembered as the guy to beat Alabama. He has already solidified himself as a Rebel that will be remembered after he leaves the program. The junior threw for 3740 yards this season with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His play on the ground is a particular bright spot, as he has rushed for 427 yards and 10 touchdowns. Alabama has had problems with mobile quarterbacks and Kelly took them to town. Word on the street is that Deshaun Watson is mobile, look out Alabama.

Ole Miss averaged 40.3 points per game, which put them as one of the best offenses in the SEC this season. Ask Alabama what they think of their offense. Mississippi scored 38 points in each of their last two games. Ole Miss can pass and throw, Oklahoma State is vulnerable against the run, allowing 185 yards per game. Ole Miss is averaging 182 rushing. Whether Rudolph or Walsh plays the majority of the snaps, I think both should play well. The offense has looked good, scoring 41.2 points per game. This one should be all about the points. I look for the OVER 67.5 to cash in the Sugar Bowl.

PICK: OVER 67.5 POINTS (-110)
