Packers Jets Spread Predictions and Betting Lines and Trends

The rested New York Jets will play host to the ailing Green Bay Packers this Sunday afternoon in a game that features two of the games more high-profile young quarterbacks. The (5-1) New York Jets will be looking to keep atop the highly contested AFC East with a victory over the (4-3) Green Bay Packers this Sunday afternoon, kickoff slated for 1 PM EST. Coming off of their bye week the New York Jets are looking to extend their winning streak to six games and are welcoming back to full strength their Pro Bowl cornerback, Darrelle Revis. Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver almost certainly will test him and Antonio Cromartie.

Green Bay picked up a big division win last week against Minnesota and already has lost to one AFC East team, the Miami Dolphins two weeks ago, so Rodgers and company would like nothing better than to spoil New York’s party with an upset. The Packers have one of the most crowded injury lists in the NFL and are desperately in need of a bye week of their own. The Packers have signed three new linebackers this week to try and plug the holes in the dike, and claimed NT Howard Green off waivers (ironically from the Jets) to help the defensive line. Apparently he had quite the road trip after he was told to get to Green Bay Defensively, the Packers are going to have to watch out for the reborn RB LaDainian Tomlinson at running back and hope to get to Sanchez often enough to take him out of his rhythm. The wideout duo of WR’s Greg Jennings and Donald Driver are proving to be one of the most fearsome in the league once again. Driver and Jennings have combined for 8 touchdown receptions and 697 yards on 54 catches. Defensively, Packers’ linebacker Clay Matthews leads the NFL with 8.5, and that’s after missing the Miami game with a hamstring injury, so Sanchez will be have to wary of him. Rodgers, in addition to keeping the ball away from Revis and Cromartie, will need to avoid the pass rush inside of Shaun Ellis and of Jason Taylor and Calvin Pace on the outside.

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had his shakiest outing of the season two weeks ago at Denver when he threw his first two interceptions of the season and nearly had two more picked off as the Jets managed to come from behind and pull out a 24-20 road win. Now that the New England Patriots have tied them at 5-1 overall, this would be the perfect opportunity for the Jets to create some separation in the AFC East. QB Mark Sanchez isn’t the big threat in this offense, though he might have a good game if the Packers are forced to bring a safety up in run support. Sanchez has a nifty 9:2 TD to INT ratio, but he’s only completed 55% of his passes (that’s QB Matt Moore territory) with a poor 6.2 yards per pass attempt. Much of the Jets success this season can be attributed to the resurgence of ex-Charger RB LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and already has five rushing touchdowns to go along with his 490 rushing yards on just 92 carries as he ranks 12th in the league among running backs. He also has caught 19 passes for 107 yards, just five fewer than team-leader Dustin Keller at tight end. Keller has 24 receptions for 343 yards and five touchdowns and wide receiver Braylon Edwards has 21 catches for 343 yards and four touchdowns.

Packers vs Jets Predictions for Week 8:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – The Jets will try to capitalize on the injury-riddled Packers and extend their winning streak to six for the first time in 12 years at the New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday. The New York Jets are one of the most dangerous football clubs in the league and I believe their best football is in front of them. New York’s offense has been a pleasant surprise, averaging 365.8 yards during the winning streak after being held to 176 by the Ravens. Much of that success has come behind a ground attack that ranks second in the league with 159.2 yards per game, with Tomlinson gaining a team-high 490 with five scores on 92 carries. They are coming off of a bye week and should be well rested and prepared to take on this ailing Packers squad. Green Bay is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games and are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games when playing NY Jets. Green Bay, however, is nursing a slew of injuries with 12 players on injured reserve. Three defensive players were added this week, further depleting a unit already missing starting cornerback Al Harris and safety Atari Bigby. I believe with the injuries and the lack of rushing, the burden is just too much for the Packers to have any chance of leaving the Empire State with a victory. I would recommend taking a look at the Jets this Sunday afternoon with the points.

Top Play Prediction = Jets -6

Game Total Prediction – The New York Jets can come into any game and have the potential to put up 28+ points in any one of them. They have a blossoming young stud at quarterback, a resurgent running back, and three solid threats at the wide out positions. After a grueling, low scoring affair against the Ravens in week 1, the Jets have found the OVER in every game since. The total has gone OVER in 5 of the NY Jets last 5 games and are putting up an average of 25.3 points per game at home. The Packers are no slouch offensively and QB Aaron Rodgers is putting together another strong campaign. The loss of RB Ryan Grant has destroyed their rushing attack but they are making up for it by throwing the ball for an average of 250.7 yards per game. These two teams have reached the OVER in the last two affairs, once in 2006 and the other in 2002. With a rested Jets squad and a tired, ailing Packers squad, I believe we will see Sanchez and the rest of the Jets offense have there time with the Packers and this game should reach the OVER with the majority of the points on the Jets efforts. We will consider the OVER in this Halloween afternoon gem of a contest. Cheers!

Prediction = OVER 42.5 Total Points
