The Lions are still looking for their first win of the 2010 season, while the Rams are coming off back to back home victories over the Redskins and Seahawks to bring them to 2-2 on the season. Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is proving his worth as the first overall pick of the 2010 draft, while the Lions first overall pick in the 2009 draft QB Mathew Stafford is still sidelined with a shoulder injury, leaving it up to backup Shaun Hill to lead the team.

Although the Lions are winless, they’re battling and competing in every game so far, losing by margins of 5,3,2 in 3 of their 4 games so far this year. Their defense however is letting them down. They rank in the bottom seven of every defensive category, and this forces them to throw the ball instead of balance their game plan with their electrifying RB Javid Best. Their passing game is ranked 7th, thanks in part to the playmaking ability of Calvin Johnson. He proves week in week out that he’s one of the toughest receivers to cover, and the Rams defense will have trouble stopping him this week.
St. Louis is a well coached team with a young defense, but as a surprise to many they rank 4th in points given up per game this year. However, they’ve faced opponents who’re in the bottom half of offense in Arizona, Oakland, Washington and Seattle. Look for Detroit’s high powered offense to give the Rams trouble this week.
Rams vs. Lions Spread, Line and Betting Odds:
St. Louis Rams +2.5
@ Detroit Lions -2.5

Rams vs Lions Prediction for Week 5 Betting:
Game Total Prediction (Top Play): The number in this game is low given the level that both defenses are playing this year. Although the Rams are preventing teams from scoring, they’re giving up nearly 350 yards per game and over 230 passing yards. Steven Jackson is a game changer and will contribute in both the running and passing games. There’s no one on the Lions defense that can stop him. I like the over here. The number is low and this match should see some good offense. Take the Over.
Spread Prediction: Historically the Lions are a better team at home, and they’ve been ultra competitive in every game so far this season. The Rams are coming off two big wins at home, and they’re in a letdown situation that should see the Lions come away with the victory. With Detroit at the Giants, home to the Skins, and then home to the Jets the next three weeks, this may be their best opportunity for a victory. I like the Lions to cover here.
