One of the late afternoon games will feature two NFC squads as the St Louis Rams play host to the Washington Redskins. The Rams come into the game at 0-2 (1-1 ATS), while Washington enters the contest at 1-1 (1-1 ATS). Kickoff is set for 4 PM EST.
The Redskins are reeling after falling apart and blowing a 17 point lead against the Houston Texans last week. Things were looking good for Washington following a Week 1 victory over the Cowboys, but quickly turned sour in the overtime defeat last week. Washington built a 27-10 lead late into the 3rd quarter but watched it slip away as Texans’ QB Matt Schaub diced them up for nearly 500 yards through the air. Redskins’ QB Donovan McNabb was solid in this game as well, completing 28 of his 38 passes for 426 yards and a touchdown. The ‘Skins had absolutely no rushing attack and of course, played very little defense, giving up huge chunks of yards left and right. The Redskins gave up a lot of yards to Dallas in the opener as well and are averaging 453 yards allowed per game, which is worst in the NFL. They also feature the worst running game in the league, averaging just 53.5 yards per game. Rushing is normally the hallmark of head coach Mike Shanahan’s offenses, but has been putrid thus far.
The Rams have been much more competitive in the first two weeks of this season than they were last year. However, wins and losses are all that matters and the Rams are 0-2 again out of the gates. After a tight 17-13 loss to Arizona in their opener, the Rams dropped a close one last week to Oakland by a score of 16-14. Rookie QB Sam Bradford showed promise for the second straight week, completing 14 of 25 passes for 167 yards with 2 touchdowns and one interception. Running back Steven Jackson managed to gain 75 yards on 19 carries and will need to be better this week against Washington. The defense had no answer for Raiders’ RB Darren McFadden, who took off for 145 yards on the ground. St Louis’ offense ranks 26th in yards per game at 267.5 and also is near the bottom in yards allowed at 391 per game – 28th in the NFL.

Redskins vs. Rams Prediction for Week 3:
Game Total Prediction (TOP PLAY) – Neither team has played stellar defense yardage-wise so far this season but have done a good job in keeping points off the board. The teams totaled just 16 points in their matchup last season. The total has gone under in 12 of the last 16 games with one push when the ‘Skins have been the favorite. The Rams have seen their last 5 games go under the posted total as well. Top Play Prediction: Under 39 Points
Spread Prediction – St Louis is showing signs of that breakout game and have been vastly improved over last year in their first two games. The Redskins typically don’t cover as the favorite, going 1-6-1 in their last 8 games when being favored. I expect the Rams to keep it close and maybe even sneak a win out at home. Prediction: Rams +3.5
