This article will focus on the wide variety of prop wagers available for betting on players of the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners enter this contest riding a wave of momentum, and have looked fairly solid from the opening week of the season. Their offense is clicking with youngster Colin Kaepernick at the helm, and their defense remains one of the game’s top units. Below are some of the value prop bets listed for wagering at Bovada.lv.
David Akers Field Goals Made – Over 1.5 (-130)/Under 1.5 (+100)
Despite Akers’ struggles leading into this contest, the 49ers will have many opprotuntiies to kick field goals in this contest. Akers will need to be ready and can be counted upon. The Niners led the league in field goal attempts in 2012-2013, but had poor conversion rates within the red zone. This is a team accustomed to settling for field goals, and expect a couple of easy chip shots for David Akers on Sunday. While his leg isn’t as booming as his counterpart in Justin Tucker, he remains an accurate place-kicker from short yardage. Akers has been heavily criticized entering the big game, and expect the veteran to answer his critics with a solid outing on Sunday.
PICK = Over 1.5 (-130)
Will Frank Gore Score A Touchdown – Yes (-130)/No (+100)
Much of Baltimore’s preparation for Super Bowl XLVII has revolved around limiting the effectiveness of the dangerous Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick poses problems for the Ravens’ defense as his speed and running ability will be difficult to contain. The extreme focus placed on the Niners’ QB, should make Frank Gore the beneficiary. Gore is simply a workhorse in the San Francisco backfield and should have a monstrous day against the Ravens. Gore is the often the number one option in short yardage situations in the red zone, and bank on him getting into the end zone on Sunday.
PICK = Yes (-130)
Will Dashon Goldson Intercept A Pass – Yes (+400)/No (-600)
Here’s an intriguing prop bet with some solid value attached to it. Goldson, the Niners dominant free safety recorded three interceptions this season, and if Flacco and the Ravens get down early, it could force the Baltimore QB into making throws he’d rather not make. Despite Flacco’s recent resurgence, we all know he is prone to making mistakes, and if he starts forcing them down the middle, Goldson is definitely worth a flier at such massive odds. Of Flacco’s 10 picks this season, 7 were from linebackers or safeties roaming the middle of the field. Consider this one!
PICK = Yes (+400)
Vernon Davis Receiving Yards – Over 50.5 (-125)/Under 50.5 (-105)
Though the Niners’ star tight-end’s effectiveness has dipped since Kaepernick took over the starting quarterback job, Davis remains one of the best options in the receiving game. After his early career struggles, the big tight end has matured into a fine player, and has a knack of coming up big when his team needs it most. Davis is a mismatch for anybody in the Baltimore secondary, and was an absolutely dominant figure against the Falcons in the NFC Championship game. The Ravens struggle covering the middle of the field, a place where Davis traditionally has dominated. Davis proved his worth last game, and look for young Kaepernick to use his tight end early and often in this one.
PICK = Over 50.5 (-125)
Colin Kaepernick Rushing Yards – Over 50.5 (-105)/Under 50.5 (-125)
I highly believe this is an inflated line resulting from the youngster’s dominant rushing performance against the Green Bay Packers in mid-January. Kaepernick is undoubtedly a talented rusher of the football, but his ability will not catch the Ravens off-guard. For much of the two weeks leading up to this game, Baltimore has devoted a ton of time to containing and stopping Kaepernick. They want to keep him in the pocket and force him to throw the football. The Ravens are scared of him using his legs, and believe they’ve concocted a stellar strategy to stopping the Nevada product. In practices they used Dennis Dixon to mimic the movements of Kaepernick, and while the Ravens likely will get gashed on the ground, expect Frank Gore to be more effective than Kaepernick.
PICK = Under 50.5 (-125)
