TCU vs. West Virginia Pick – CFB Week 10

The game of the day in the Big 12 features the 7th ranked Texas Christian Horned Frogs (6-1) traveling to Morgantown, WV to take on the 20th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (6-2) on Saturday afternoon (3:30pm ET). TCU destroyed Texas Tech at home last week 82-27 to follow up a 42-9 win over Oklahoma St., also at home, the previous week. The Horned Frogs suffered their only defeat of the year three weeks ago at Baylor, 61-58 in a shootout with the Bears. West Virginia enters this contest on a four-game winning streak after winning 34-10 at Oklahoma St. last week. The Mountaineers have suffered their only two defeats against Alabama (33-23) in week 1 and Oklahoma (45-33) at home to open conference play in week 4.

The Horned Frogs rank #1 nationally in scoring offense with 50.4 points per game scored and 2nd in total offense with 573 yards per contest. Top wide out Josh Dotson is expected to be available for this game as dual-threat quarterback Trevonne Boykin’s top target, after rolling his ankle last week against the Red Raiders. Boykin threw for a career-high 433 yards and a school-record 7 TDs last week and comes into the game red-hot. Defensively TCU ranks 29th nationally with 21.6 PPG allowed and 52nd in total defense with 371.9 YPG allowed.

TCU vs. West Virginia Pick:

TCU won 39-38 in overtime in their last trip to Morgantown in 2012, while West Virginia won 30-27 in Fort Worth last season. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 2-1. West Virginia is 6-1 straight up in its last 7 games. The total has gone OVER in 4 of TCU’s last 5 games

The Horned Frogs have allowed three 300-yard passing performances in their last four games, with Bryce Petty of Baylor throwing for 510 yards. They rank 72nd nationally with 239.6 YPG allowed through the air. Trickett had thrown for over 300 yards in eight consecutive games before having that streak stopped against OSU, so he is certainly capable of putting up big numbers against the suspect TCU secondary. West Virginia has allowed 218.4 YPG passing, ranking 54th nationally.

With both offenses looking strong this season, and TCU coming into the game on fire offensively, all of the elements are there for a high-scoring game. The one caveat is that temperatures are expected to be in the high 30’s at kickoff on Saturday, much colder conditions than these teams have been accustomed to playing in this season. The being said, with the last two meetings going into overtime, this could be anyone’s game. The smart play is to bet the total, and with both offenses looking explosive and TCU playing nothing but shootouts lately, the odds favor the OVER here.
