The resurgent Houston Texans march into Maryland this Sunday afternoon hot after a jaw dropping performance against the perennial AFC powerhouse Indianapolis Colts. The (1-0) Houston Texans will battle it out against the (1-0) Washington Redskins at FedEX Field, kickoff slated for 4:15 PM EST, in what should be a very heated affair. These two teams have met only twice since Houston’s inception into the NFL at the start of the decade with Washington winning both of those contests. It will be intriguing to watch Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan deal the plays against his former employer, the Texans, whom he left this past off season to be with his father in Washington. This contest will put a dynamic offense, Houston, against a punishing defense, Washington, coupled with 90,000 screaming Hog fans should make for quite an afternoon in Landover.
Second year RB Arian Foster stamped his name in the NFL’s legitimacy ranks with his 231 yards and 3 touchdowns last week and is 102 yards away from setting the NFL record for most yards rushing in a player’s first three starts since 1970 merger. The Houston Texans are looking to go 2-0 for the second time since entering the league in 2002, and their current five-game overall winning streak is their longest in team history. QB Matt Schaub, fresh off his career year in 2009 that garnered him a spot in the Pro Bowl, looked solid in week 1 as he tossed for 107 yards and no interceptions. All-star WR Andre Johnson had a rather quiet week 1 outing as he was held to 33 yards receiving on 3 catches, he should be called on more this week as the Redskins will look to limit RB Arian Fosters attack. Johnson needs 10 receptions to reach 600 and 19 yards receiving to get to 8,000 on his career, both of these milestones are well within reaching point for this weeks contest. A win Sunday in Landover would prove a lot of the doubters of the Texans wrong and would signal a possible changing of the guard in the AFC South.
The Washington Redskins are not the flashiest of teams but they get the job done, as they did last Sunday night against the Cowboys. First year Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has yet to get his offense moving but should be able to this week against an average Texans unit that is minus 2009 rookie of the year LB Brian Cushing (suspension). The Redskins did not score an offensive touchdown last week, rather they got the win on two field goals and a defensive score. RB Clinton Portis landed himself in a bit of hot water this past week with words he uttered against female reporters in NFL locker rooms but he will be the focal point in the Redskins offense this week, he averages 107.6 yards from scrimmage per game throughout his career which is the sixth-best total in NFL history (min. 100 games). Rookie first round pick OT Trent Williams was very successful in his first regular season NFL game as he allowed 0 sacks and was not penalized once. Coach Mike Shanahan needs a win Sunday to have a legitimate shot at starting the season 3-0 as they head to St. Louis next week.

Texans vs Redskins Prediction for Week 2:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – The Houston Texans are riding a 5-0 winning streak stretching into last years campaign and I don’t see any reason to write this streak off yet. The offense is absolutely dynamic and puts them in contention in every game. I like this pick even more due to the fact that Washington is 4-11 ATS in its last 15 games at home. Yes, the Redskins defense was quite impressive last Sunday night against the boys from Dallas but this Texans offense can score at will and has the ability to rack up . serious numbers in any game on the ground or threw the air. I don’t believe Redskins QB Donovan McNabb’s ankle woes are behind him yet, at least not enough to keep up in high scoring affairs. I am not ready to jump on the Texans bandwagon just yet but I am confident that they can weather the early storm in Washington and prevail in this contest. Strongly consider Houston -3 points in this one. TOP PLAY PREDICTION – TEXANS -3
Game Total Prediction – This is a tricky number, we have a very viable offense stacked up against a legitimate defense. The Texans defense can get the job done and the Redskins offense has the potential to put up points. I believe this game will reach this number and be able to climb over, QB Donovan McNabb will be aching to erase last weeks performance from the minds of all. The total has gone OVER in 8 of Washington’s last 11 games and the total has gone OVER in 4 of Washington’s last 6 games at home. I recommend taking a look at the over in this contest, as there is just too much firepower on both teams’ offenses. Cheers!
