Texas Texas Tech Spread, Line and Prediction Week 3

The number 3 ranked Texas Longhorns travel to Lubbock, TX this Saturday (8pm EST) to take on the Red Raiders of Texas Tech University in one of the toughest venues in the Big-12 conference. Texas coach Mack Brown is only 3-3 in his career playing in Lubbock, and another loss in what is traditionally a wild, shoot-out would cost the Longhorns dearly in their quest for a Big-12 title and BCS bowl birth. Texas is only 9-9 overall in Lubbock since 1974, and this one figures to be another tough game to forecast.

Sophomore quarterback Garret Gilbert leads the Longhorns in this one, and his first career start on an opponent’s home field could not come in a more unpredictable environment than Jones AT&T Stadium. Gilbert received his baptism by fire in the BCS National Championship game last year against Alabama, so he should be prepared for the pressure but he will have to be on his game because the Red Raiders have a potent offense in their own right. Tech Senior quarterback Taylor Potts threw for over 3400 yards and 22 touchdowns last season with a 65.7% completion percentage, and is on pace to eclipse those numbers this year. Lyle Leong is one of Tech’s top receivers and running back Baron Batch gives the offense a change of pace on the ground when they decide to mix up their pass-heavy offense. First-year Tech coach Tommy Tuberville has not changed the offense much from the Mike Leach days, and they still like to throw it a lot.

Do not expect much defense in this one, Texas Tech had some trouble with SMU in their opener winning 35-27 and failing to cover the 12.5 points, but both teams are 2-0 against weak completion and this game will separate the wheat from the chaff in the Big-12. The Longhorns are 0-2 vs. the spread this year, failing to cover huge lines against Rice and Wyoming.

Texas vs Texas Tech Prediction for Week 3 Saturday Evening Game:

Over/Under Prediction (Top Play) – The over looks like a good play here. Texas Tech has never been known for its defense, and the Red Raiders are still capable of putting points up in bunches, even without Mike Leach at the helm. The over is 20-9-1 in the last 30 Texas road games, and over is 7-3 in last Texas Tech home games. Every game since 2002 has come in with a total over this number. Gilbert and Potts are very confident quarterbacks with ample offensive talent surrounding them. The trend is your friend here as neither team will be able to stop the other in what has all the makings of another shoot-out. PREDICTION (TOP PLAY) – Over 52 **NOTE  – YOU CAN NOW GET THE GAME TOTAL AT 50.5 (CLICK HERE)**

Spread Prediction – The Longhorns look to be a strong bet to cover the three points on the road, their nemesis Leach is gone, and they have the advantage over Tech in terms of talent and coaching as well. This game is traditionally a toss up though and the Tech offense still appears to be humming with Tuberville calling the shots in Lubbock. There is no reason not to expect this one to be close most, if not all of the way. In the end, Texas’ superior athletes should be too much for the Red Raiders to handle though and Tuberville is a defensive-oriented coach who will not have nearly as many surprises in store for the Longhorns as Leach did. New offensive coordinator Neal Brown, who came over from Troy is making a big move up in terms of competition, and will need to earn his stripes before getting the benefit of the doubt here. Prediction – LONGHORNS -3.5 **NOTE  – YOU CAN NOW GET THE LONGHORNS AT -3 (CLICK HERE)**
