An entertaining matchup between two high powered AFC South teams is on the docket this week, as the 5-5 Tennessee Titans visit the 4-6 Houston Texans. The Texans hung tough with the Jets last week but they still boast the worst defense in the league and can’t stop anyone, while the Titans are dealing with some off field issues as Vince Young’s inner child has popped up once again. Oh and did I mention Randy Moss was held without a catch last week and now has 1 catch in 2 games for the Titans? The plot thickens in what should be a fun game in Houston.
I don’t quite know where to begin. The Texans are atrocious on defense, and if it wasn’t for a very potent offense they’d be in the same sentence as Carolina and Arizona. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but Houston give up over 400 yards per game, almost 30 points, and over 300 yards through the air. As averages, that’s brutal, and if they can’t do something about it for this week’s game, Randy Moss will have a field day against them. Chris Johnson has been good this year, but after last year it’s hard to make it not look like he’s being shut down. He’s clearly still one of the best RBs in the league, but the NFL changes so often, this is the year of Arian Foster. Foster has great pass catching abilities and his downhill running style has proven to be very hard to stop. Team’s are deciding to take away the Texan’s passing game which gives Foster the chance to run wild. Foster had 143 all purpose yards last week against the Jets, and scored 2 TDs in the losing effort. Neither team can afford to lose this week as they both have playoff hopes, but the Titans off field issues are starting to become an issue.

Vince Young’s season is over. The Titans placed him on I.R. this week. He injured the thumb on his throwing hand and then got into it with Jeff Fisher after the game. Every year it seems to be something with VY, and although many people believe he’ll be done after this year, I don’t see his career with the Titans being quite over just yet. But until next year, Kerry Collins is the starting QB again, and he’s going to have to play well and take the Titans on a run if they want to make the playoffs. A win this week against the Texans is a great way to start.

Titans vs. Texans Prediction for Week 12 Betting:
Spread Total (Top Play): Just when you think the Texans have turned the corner and are finally going to make the playoffs, they go on a four game losing streak. Last year they were in a funk which inevitably kept them out of the post season, and this year they’re repeating the trick. They have the talent on offense to hang with any team, but their defense is the worst in the league. Even with the Titans issues right now, they have enough firepower on offense to keep this close. Both teams have similar records and this divisional game won’t be separated by a TD. The fact that the Texans are the favorites is a bonus, as the Titans are a far better team overall.
Top Play Prediction = Titans + 6.5
Game Total Prediction: The Titans score more points on the road than they do at home, averaging over 27 points per game. That’s the same number that the Chargers (the leagues number 1 offense) average per game. Houston’s defense gives up the 2nd most points in the league, over 28, but you just have to watch them play to see how bad their defense really is. This points to the Over, as I like this game to hit the 50 mark.
