We notched a 2-1 ATS winning day yesterday to get back on the winning path thanks to an easy blowout win from Kansas (as predicted, the spread wasn’t even CLOSE on that one) and a double-overtime thriller from San Diego State (admittedly, I didn’t stay up for the end of that one out East). We dropped a second game this season backing the LSU Tigers who lost to Clemson (yuck) by a single possession. As I’ve heard from a few of you, perhaps it is time to reevaluate the stance that LSU is tourney-bound (agreed).
In fact, it isn’t just LSU that is stinking up the joint; once again the SEC is grateful their fan bases are pigskin-centric, because it’s been a lousy start to the season for the Southeastern Conference. LSU, who many pegged as third or fourth in the SEC and an NCAA Tourney team has dropped games to Old Dominion and Clemson. Georgia lost to Georgia Tech, Tennessee got housed by VCU, Auburn lost by 31 to Colorado, and even Florida needed overtime to beat Louisiana Monroe and lost to Miami. The entire SEC (non-Kentucky) has been a bit of an early season disappointment, and could wind up being the power conference with the lowest percentage of its team in the Big Dance if early season returns are any indication.
It’s another big day of preseason tourney action with great games around the clock. Let’s make it even more fun by stacking up a few more winners.

Arkansas Razorbacks vs. SMU Mustangs -4.5
I’ll say this for Larry Brown, he ain’t messing around with the schedule. His team is 2-2, but it isn’t because they’ve ducked for cover and hid. Their two losses are at Gonzaga and Indiana. Granted, IU just lost at home last night to Eastern Washington after struggling with Lamar (Lamar is a school, not just a single dude, but still that should be an easy win). Still, SMU is challenging themselves.
The problem is, they are facing those challenges with a shadow of the team they thought they’d have. Kennedy is still suspended, Mudiay is never coming to campus, and to make matters worse, Xavier transfer Justin Martin is unlikely to play tonight after leaving the last game with a sore knee. So they are left with Nic Moore having to do WAY too much against good teams. Arkansas fit that bill. People are sleeping on the Hogs a little bit right now. Bobby Portis is the odds on favorite to win SEC player of the year (UK’s kids will split too many stats and votes). They are off to a 3-0 start, but today is admittedly their first real test. They spanked Wake by 30, but a road trip to Dallas is their first real game.
There is a danger is taking road teams straight-up when they are only slightly better than the home team. However, they are getting four points tonight which eases some of the concern. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they beat a depleted SMU squad, but I love them with the four points.
