Putting all the controversy aside, the New England Patriots (8-5) managed to avoid a third straight loss and maintain control of the AFC East for another week. Next up on their agenda, they hope, is finally earning their first true road win of 2009. The Buffalo Bills (5-8), losers of their 12 straight overall to the Patriots are the perfect opponents. The Patriots had four players who had been sent home from practice after showing up late for a team meeting. Despite all the distractions, the Patriots beat Carolina 20-10 to keep a one-game lead over both Miami and the New York Jets as they try and reclaim the division they won five straight times from 2003-2007. Patriot’s linebacker Adalius Thomas who was one of the players disciplined by coach Bill Belichick last week was benched following his public retort. Standout nose tackle Vince Wilford left Sunday’s game with a foot injury and his status is unclear for this matchup. In their meeting earlier this season, the Bills led 24-13 with just more than two minutes remaining but Tom Brady led the team downfield for the comeback win. Since then the Bills have replaced head coach Dick Jauron with Perry Fewell and quarterbacks as Ryan Fitzpatrick steeping in for Trent Edwards. Patriots vs. Bills Predictions:
Final Score Prediction – New England 27 Bills 10
Spread Prediction – I like the PATRIOTS to cover the 7 point spread. Although the Bills have shown modest improvement with their changes, beating the Patriots is going to be a difficult task for head coach Fewell. This game will the Randy Moss show. After starting the season on a high, he had a very emotional game last week and as a result recorded only one catch for 16 yards. The Patriots will continue their dominance of the Buffalo Bills this weekend.
Over/Under – Take the UNDER in this one. The Bills defense is half-decent, leading the NFL with interceptions at 25 but ranks last in the league against the run allowing 170.5 yards per game. That statistic and combined with the cool December weather at Ralph Wilson stadium should see the Patriots really working the ground game which needs some help as it is ranked 26th in the league. Don’t expect the combined score to be over 41 total points, take the under.
