College Basketball Picks Feb 1st – Penn State Illinois

It appears the Louisville Cards finally ran out of magic. The Cards again fought back from a double digit deficit, but couldn’t quite overcome Georgetown. Peyton Siva got a clean look but his three went wide at the buzzer.

Just another night in the Big East, the most competitive league in the country. At current projections, the conference is in line for a record-shattering eleven bids into the Big Dance. Predicting the order of those eleven seems like a nearly impossible chore.

Today’s Free College Basketball Picks:

North Carolina -2.5 @ Boston College

North Carolina was the target of much derision as they stumbled out of the gate for a second straight season despite the addition of much celebrated freshman Harrison Barnes.

Barnes has still been mediocre at best, but Tyler Zeller and John Henson have developed nicely in their sophomore seasons, and very quietly the Tarheels are playing good basketball.

With a win, UNC moves into a tie atop the ACC standings. They have lost their last two in Chestnut Hill, but appear to be emerging from their 15 month malaise.

Boston College has been exposed a bit the past two games, and I think their struggles will continue tonight. It’s a small leap of faith trusting the Tarheels on the road, but their huge talent advantage is tough to ignore.

PICK: North Carolina -2.5 (-110) @ <- $200 super bowl bonus on now

Penn State @ Illinois -8

Pick against Penn State at your own peril. The Nittany Lions don’t have a great record at just 13-8, but they do earn four wins over ranked teams in January, and their two losses to the top two teams in the Big Ten, Ohio State and Purdue, were by a total of four points.

Illinois also has a record misleading of their talent. The Illini have played one of the most brutal schedules in the country. They carry seven losses, but are still ranked in the top 25 for good reason.

It’s a tall order to win in Champaign. I like Talor Battle and Penn State’s moxy – but I am not sure they can win on the road. However eight and a half seems like a scary number to lay to the upset-machine that is Penn State

PICK: Penn State +8 (-107) @ <- $520 sign up bonus (depending on deposit size – click for more info)
