College of Charleston vs Maryland Predictions NCAAB

The College of Charleston Cougars get their basketball season underway when they head north to College Park, Maryland to take on the hometown Maryland Terrapins. The Terps (1-0) are coming off of an impressive 105-76 victory over Seattle in their season-opener. Four different Terrapins scored in double digits in the win. For Charleston, the game offers a good springboard into what could be a promising season. The Cougars are coming off of three consecutive 20-win seasons and freshman James Carlton is widely (per a host of media services) being selected as the conference’s top incoming freshman. The Terrapins should feel the force of a great home crowd but it won’t be easy for them against a College of Charleston team that returns three starters and a team that beat North Carolina last year.

The visiting Cougars, under longtime Georgia Tech coach Bobby Cremins, led the Southern Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio and with the loss of point guard Tony White it could be in for a touch of trouble. But, they might not see it this game. The Terrapins had an offensive explosion in their first game but they were playing Seattle. Not to degrade the Cameron Dollar-coached bunch (he was a former UCLA star) but they’ll be in for a heck of a fight against a Cougar team that went 14-4 in the SoCon and adds a pair of good newcomers to go along with some solid reserves and three returning starters. If there is hope for an upset tonight it would come on the shoulders of Cougahrs guard Andrew Goudelock. He averaged 19.4 PPG last year and has been tabbed first-team all-SoCon.

The Terrapins have a right to feel some optimism of their own and not just their opening day tally of 105 points in the blowout win. Last year, the season with a heart-breaking two-point loss to Michigan State. Losing seniors Greivis Vasquez, Eric Hayes and Landon Milbourne left plenty of questions coming into the season but coach Gary Williams felt confident about what he still had left in the cupboard. Sean Mosley, Cliff Tucker and Jordan Williams all found double-digits in the Seattle win as did freshman Terrell Stoglin. Stoglin was outstanding: he scored 15 points in 18 minutes and was a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line. If the Terrapins can continue to score, they shouldn’t have any trouble.

College of Charleston vs. Maryland Betting Prediction:

Spread Prediction – There is no question that this Maryland team isn’t bad. But, there are going to be some humps along the way and surrendering 76 on opening night to a Seattle team that lacks firepower may prove to be a dangerous omen against a College of Charleston team that should be in the thick of it in their conference. Bobby Cremins has been to College Park more times than anyone could count—he was the former coach at ACC rival Georgia Tech. With that, don’t expect his Cougars to be concerned with the crowd. Maryland will probably win this game, but don’t expect it to be a Xerox of their Seattle game.
