The doors continue to be opened wider in the table tennis world, as more tournaments are popping up around the world. The Czech Republic now has two tournaments running at the same time. The Czech TT Star Series, which we’ve covered often at The Sports Geek, and the Czech Liga Pro is now underway in Czechia. As far as competition is concerned, two of the top players in the country, Tomas Tregler and Tomas Konecny, are in the TT Star Series. None of the players in the Liga Pro are recognized nationally, so the better of the two has to be the TT Star Series.
We hit another winner in the Czech TT Star Series on Monday with Tregler a winner over Antonin Gavlas. This has been by far the most successful table tennis league that we’ve bet so far. Our Moscow Liga Pro pick was not a winner, with Dmitry Merzlikin winning 15 straight points between the 4th and 5th set. He was on a roll and then just stopped playing to lose.
You don’t see that happen nearly as often in the Czech Republic. Winning every bet will obviously be difficult, but in the majority of matches, the guy you’re backing will compete and try to win. You can find some fantastic rallies in this tournament. There are good table tennis players in Russia, though the vast majority are not playing in the Moscow Liga Pro. With the split Monday, our all-time table tennis record moves to 32-21. Nothing to complain about with that. If we can just subtract the Russian table tennis, we’d be in even better shape at the moment.
In any event, I’m more than content with how things have gone on the table tennis courts. We’re handicapping the last match of the day in the Czech TT Star Series on Tuesday. Jakub Kleprlik and Jakub Seibert will square off to close out the day in Prague. Head below for our free Czech TT Star Series pick between Jakub Kleprlik vs. Jakub Seibert for May 12, 2020. This match is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. EST, though that is subject to change.
Jakub Kleprlik vs. Jakub Seibert Czech TT Star Series Table Tennis Odds:
Jakub Kleprlik vs. Jakub Seibert Prediction:
This most frustrating thing about the Czech TT Star Series has been that the sportsbook erased a sure fire money making system. No disrespect to Jakub Nemecek, I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but the rest of the players in this tournament are far and above better than him. Betting the UNDER, or to lose in straight sets, in matches featuring Nemecek were fire. Having said that, this looks like a spot where we can win a bet on a table tennis total on Tuesday. Kleprlik and Seibert aren’t as bad as Nemecek, but belong in a group with him.
Kleprlik heads into Tuesday with a record of 2-8 in his previous ten matches. He upset David Reitspies yesterday in a thrilling win, though his other win was against Jan Valenta, who is a bottom player in the TT Star Series tournament. Dating back to April 20, Kleprlik has gone 8-24 so there could be some improvements. That’s much better than Seibert, though, who owns a record of 2-17 in his previous 19 matches. He has two wins against Nemecek and that’s all for wins. Seibert was solid in a win over Kleprlik on April 24, 3-2, which resulted in a big upset over Miroslav Horejsi in his next match.
Seibert and Kleprlik have faced each other three times and each of their previous two matches went to a fifth set. In their most recent meeting on April 28, Kleprlik won 14-12, 11-9, 11-8, 11-2, 11-9. Prior to that match on the 24th, Seibert won by a score of 11-9, 5-11, 3-11, 11-9, 12-10. Seibert and Kleprlik are on equal footing with one another for the most part, and it’s no surprise that they get into close matches. We should see another one of those tight battles on Tuesday.
